Alabaster Jar Project Golf Tournament: Entering its ninth year, this event benefits the titular group, a non-profit that provides “long-term housing and comprehensive support for survivors of human trafficking and sexual exploitation.” The tournament will be held on the golf course at the Rancho Bernardo Inn (17550 Bernardo Oaks Drive) Registration begins at 10 a.m. – the cost is $190 for an individual and $700 for a four-person team – with gameplay following three hours later.
Creating With Care at MCASD: The Museum of Contemporary Art San Diego in La Jolla (650 S. Coast Blvd.) hosts this conversation from 5-7 p.m. moderated by Mashonda Tifrere, who has not only curated 50 different exhibitions in the past 10 years, but founded ArtLeadHer and Art Genesis, two groups dedicated to platforming women as artists. Joining Tifrere for this discussion are artists Kenturah Davis, Rugiyatou Ylva Jallow and Sasha Koozel Reibstein. Doors open at 5 p.m. for this free event – organizers ask that you RSVP – with the discussion beginning at 6:30 p.m.
Taste of Eastlake: Visitors are encouraged to dress for their best garden party vibes for this event from 6-9:30 p.m. at the Chula Vista Elite Athlete Training Center (2800 Olympic Pkwy). More than 40 food and beverage vendors are expected to take part, and the event will also feature a silent auction and live entertainment. The party is a fundraiser for the Eastlake Educational Foundation, with tickets costing $85 per person.

Bicycle Film Festival: According to organizers, the festival originated in New York City in 2001 and has since spread to more than 100 cities becoming “a global celebration of cycling.” The festival’s San Diego leg, if you will, will be held at the Museum of Photographic Arts at the San Diego Museum of Art (1649 El Prado) from 2:30-8 p.m. and features three slates of short films throughout the day: “Cinematic” shorts, “Adventure” shorts, and “Urban Bike” shorts. A full festival pass costs $35, but for $22 you can watch one set of films.
Eastside Story Car Show & Concert: Just north of the Convention Center, at Broadway Pier (1000 The Embarcadero), you can come and get a taste of old-school wheels and tunes from 3-10 p.m. with performances from funk legends the Bar-Kays and NYC freestyle pioneers the Cover Girls, among others. General admission costs $45, but a $100 VIP ticket includes reserved seating, access to a separate bar at the event and a copy of a special Eastside Story comic book.
Hella Plants Market: Billing itself as “the ultimate plant experience,” this event has spread in various formats to Southern California and debuts in San Diego at the Soap Factory (2995 Commercial St.) from noon-4 p.m. with plant vendors, live music, food and cocktails and workshops during the day. General admission costs just over $7 (kids get in free), but you can upgrade to early entry at 11 a.m. through VIP package offerings, as well as reserve a spot at a separate terrarium workshop for $71.
National Carousel Day: Balboa Park’s historic Dorothea Laub carousel (1889 Zoo Place) gets her day in the sun in this free event from 11 a.m.-4:30 p.m. with live entertainment throughout the day and, of course, free carousel rides.
One More Time – a Daft Punk Tribute: Behold, the next tribute band frontier — and the type of geeky event that thrives adjacent to SDCC. DJs Ron Diep and Ben Linsenmyer bring their stage-accurate homage to the French techno legends to the Music Box (1337 India St.) downtown for this 21-and-up event. Doors open at 8 p.m. with San Diego’s DJ Mancat providing support starting an hour later. Tickets cost $20.
San Diego Women’s Chorus Pride Concert: The festival may be over, but the SDWC will present its own celebration with two shows (Saturday at 7 p.m. and Sunday at 4 p.m.) at the Joan and Irwin Jacobs Performing Arts Center (2880 Roosevelt Road). Tickets are still available.
Vista Buddhist Temple Obon Festival: The temple opens its doors at 150 Cedar Road on Saturday and Sunday for two days of Bon Odori dance circles, Taiko drumming performances, Japanese cultural activities and discussions on Shin Buddhism. “It is a time to remember those who have come before us and to reflect with deep gratitude on how their lives made our own possible,” the temple says on its website. The event runs from 2-8 p.m. both days and admission is free.

Convivio’s “Rock & Roll Revival”: This event is a fundraiser for Convivio, a non-profit group that says its mission is to cultivate comradery and “promote all things Italian.” For this 18-and-up event, guests are invited to bust out their best 1950’s attire while a DJ plays popular music from the era. From 5:30-9:30 p.m. at AmiciBar (250 W. Date St.) in Little Italy. Tickets cost $50.
