Walmart says stores in several states are recalling some bags of Taylor Fresh Foods iceberg lettuce after the brand expanded its voluntary recall of lettuce products sourced from central Mexico because of a potential link to the multistate cyclospora outbreak.
According to the Food and Drug Administration’s recall, the lettuce was distributed to a number of states, including through food service and retail segments. The recall says some retailers carried Iceberg Salad in 12 and 24 ounce bags; and Shredded Lettuce in eight and 16 ounce bags, with best if used by dates of July 16 through Aug. 3.
A list of retailers was not provided by the FDA. A July 18 post on Walmart’s “Food Recalls” website said some of the lettuce products were sold at retail locations 15 states, including Alabama; Arkansas; Florida; Georgia; Indiana; Kansas; Kentucky; Louisiana; Missouri; Mississippi; Oklahoma; Tennessee; Texas; Virginia and West Virginia.
Overall, the voluntarily recalled Taylor Farms products were primarily distributed through food service in more than two dozen states, with the CDC initially warning consumers to avoid eating shredded lettuce served at Taco Bell restaurants in Indiana, Kentucky, Michigan, Ohio and West Virginia.

According to officials, the false positive was discovered when the agency again reviewed the results of a sample from Taylor Farms de Mexico.
“As of July 19, 2026, there are no confirmed positive sample results for product testing for Cyclospora,” the FDA said in its statement.
A statement posted to Taylor Farms’ website Sunday night said the FDA apologized, saying the agency made a mistake.
“To be clear, at this moment, FDA has not identified a single positive product test result for Cyclospora,” the statement said. The statement added that the results don’t change brand’s voluntary recall of iceberg lettuce from central Mexico.
“Recalled product was limited to iceberg lettuce grown and processed in central Mexico,” Taylor Farms statement said. “All other Taylor Farms products, including all Taylor Farms brand products available for purchase, are not involved in the recall.”
The Taylor Farms recall announcement listed 25 shredded lettuce and salad mix products sold under eight different brand codes. The recalled products were shipped as recently as July 16, and have “best by” dates as late as Aug. 3. A full list can be found here.
Sysco, the nation’s largest food distributor, has halted distribution of all Taylor Farms iceberg lettuce products sourced from Mexico and instructed customers to destroy them.
July 18, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention advised customers to not eat recalled iceberg lettuce from Taylor Farms de Mexico that “ma be sold in retail stores or restaurants.”
“If you purchased recalled lettuce, throw it out or return it to the store. If you don’t know the source of the lettuce, ask the restaurant,” the CDC said.
Cyclospora is a microscopic parasite that infects food that has come into contact with human feces, most commonly when produce is irrigated or washed with contaminated water. When ingested, the parasite causes intestinal illness marked by “frequent and sometimes explosive bowel movements,” according to the CDC.
In 2026, cyclospora has sickened at least 1,645 people in the U.S. and hospitalized 141, according to the CDC, which is investigating more than 5,000 additional illnesses that may be linked to the parasite. This time last year, only 249 cases had been reported.
It wasn’t clear if other retailers had removed any Taylor Farms lettuce products from shelves. NBC Chicago reached out to Target and the parent companies of Jewel-Osco and Mariano’s for this story.
