The 31-year-old Grier began his college football career at Florida. He signed to play for Will Muschamp, but redshirted during the 2014 season.
In 2015, Jim McElwain’s first season, Grier had a memorable redshirt freshman season that was cut short by a year-long suspension after testing positive for a banned substance. Grier led the Gators to a 6-0 start, including a thrilling comeback win over Tennessee and a blowout over then-No. 3 Ole Miss, 38-10.
Grier was 105-for-160 as a Gator quarterback, throwing for 1,202 yards, 10 touchdowns and 3 interceptions, adding 2 rushing scores. Facing a year-long NCAA suspension without guarantee that he would be Florida’s starter upon a mid-season return in 2016, Grier opted to transfer and start fresh elsewhere.
Grier transferred to West Virginia, sitting out the 2016 season and returning to action in 2017. Grier had a standout career at WVU. In 2 seasons with the Mountaineers, Grier threw for 7,354 yards and 71 touchdowns. He finished his college career with a completion percentage of 65.7.
Professionally, Grier was in the NFL from 2019-24. His only regular-season playing time came in 2019 with the Panthers. He was also on the roster with the Dallas Cowboys (2021, ’22, ’24), New England Patriots (2023) and Los Angeles Chargers (2023).
Grier spent time on the Dallas practice squad. He signed with the Panthers in April as a free agent.
