Here Comes Norman Powell, Number Swap With Noa, Rookies Showing Out in Vegas, and Other Bulls Bullets ...Middle East

Happy Sunday, Bulls fans!

I hope it’s not just me who still isn’t over the masterclass we witnessed from Caleb Wilson in his unofficial Bulls debut on Friday. Thirty-five points while shooting 7-of-11 from three… sheesh.

The Bulls’ Summer League squad is back in action tomorrow, and maybe Caleb Wilson, Dailyn Swain, and Noa Essengue will give us even more to grin about.

Also, All-Star Norman Powell made his first appearance as a Chicago Bull yesterday. He answered some questions, posed for some pictures, and gave us plenty to talk about.

Let’s talk Bulls basketball.

Caleb Wilson via @chicagobulls on X The Bulls’ marquee signing, Norman Powell, joined the team in Las Vegas, introducing himself to fans on social media and speaking with the media. A lot was said, most of which I would recommend checking out for yourself. But some of Powell’s most interesting comments started with what he believes he can bring to a rebuilding Chicago Bulls team.

“Everybody’s super young,” Powell said. “I think I’m the only 30-year-old on the team. So just help them, guide them. Focus on the details and how to improve and play winning basketball.”

He also spoke about why this opportunity with the Bulls stood out to him the most, obviously, aside from the money.

“I think this is an opportunity for me that I’ve always wanted. I wanted to be a vocal leader,” Powell said. “I wanted to lead by example… I’ve never needed 25 shots to get my stuff off. I play within the flow of the game. I try to play the game the right way, and I know these guys have a great opportunity.”

Powell did mention that he also wanted to stay in Miami with the Heat. However, following the acquisitions of Giannis Antetokounmpo and Bobby Portis, the Heat were not in a position to make that happen. His next preferred option was one where it could be ‘his own team,’ of sorts. Powell is the only NBA All-Star and NBA champion on the roster, and his career has shown that progression doesn’t have to be linear or tied to a specific timeline. Of all the free agents available, he clearly fit what Chicago needed, both on the floor and in the locker room.

“I go into every situation wanting to be where I’m at and help win,” said the newest member of the Chicago Bulls, Norman Powell.

— Chicago Bulls (@chicagobulls) July 11, 2026 During all of this, the Bulls also announced which number Norman Powell will be wearing next season. Throughout his career with the Toronto Raptors, Portland Trail Blazers, Los Angeles Clippers, and Miami Heat, Powell has worn No. 24. (He also clearly loves playing for teams with red and white in their color scheme.) But on the Bulls, 2025 first-round pick Noa Essengue already had No. 24 locked up. Or so we thought. The team announced that Powell will continue wearing No. 24 next season, while Essengue will switch to No. 2. I wonder if Powell had to pay Noa for the jersey number or if Noa willingly gave it up. Either way, All-Star Norman gets the All-Star treatment.

— Chicago Bulls (@chicagobulls) July 11, 2026 And finally, the opening weekend of the 2026 NBA Summer League has been a great one for the 2026 NBA Draft class. Everyone raved about how stacked this draft class was, and so far, most of these guys have been able to back up the hype. We all obviously know that the top four picks, AJ Dybantsa, Darryn Peterson, Cameron Boozer, and Caleb Wilson, put together monster performances. But beyond them, guys like Mikel Brown, Darius Acuff, Kingston Flemings, Morez Johnson, Brayden Burries, Allen Graves, Labaron Philon, Chris Cenac, and even second-round picks Bruce Thornton and Meleek Thomas went off in their first games with their Summer League teams. Two players who I think still have a lot left to prove are Los Angeles Clippers fifth-overall pick Keaton Wagler and the OKC Thunder’s Aday Mara. I really liked both of them coming into the NBA Draft, but their first couple of Summer League performances have still left a lot to be desired. Obviously, it’s only Summer League. It’s not the end-all, be-all for any player, and a few games shouldn’t define anyone’s career. But when the rest of the 2026 NBA Draft class is already performing at such a high level, it becomes difficult not to compare.
