Lineup Changes, Korchinski In, Scoring Chances, Prospect Goals, and Other Blackhawks Bullets ...Middle East

The Blackhawks threw their lineup in a blender and hit the high button on Saturday at practice. One noteworthy insertion is defenseman Kevin Korchinski, who will finally get into the lineup. After practice, here’s what head coach Jeff Blashill said his messaging is to Korchinski as he skates for the second time this season:

“We want to get Korch in there, give him an opportunity as well. My thing to Korch was make sure he makes quick decisions with the puck, but he doesn’t panic with the puck. When he handles the pressure he’s going to face tomorrow, he’s got to make sure he’s not throwing it around, that he knows he has great intent of what he’s doing with the puck every time he touches it.”

The most notable change to the forward group is Andrew Mangiapane looking to draw in for… Oliver Moore. Jordan Greenway flexed up to the line with Anton Frondell and Tyler Bertuzzi. That’s a heavy line — likely going to see a lot of the Tkachuks this afternoon. Frondell has at least one shot on net in every game this season. He could be one of the Blackhawks’ top scoring options not on the top line. But his ice time has been down in the last two games (only 12:40 vs. Dallas and 14:06 against Montreal) and he’s been getting heavy defensive responsibility from the coaches from the jump this season, often skating against the opponents’ top line. Frondell has only two assists in his last six games — both against the Penguins. After two games without a registered shot on net, Roman Kantserov was credited with four shots on goal against Montreal. He was in the fight every shift. He hasn’t scored a goal in three games — since he scored twice in the Blackhawks win against the Penguins. Bowen Byram was still in a non-contact jersey at practice on Saturday but he participated with the rest of the Blackhawks.

— BHF (@BlackhawksFocus) October 24, 2026 Over the past couple weeks there’s been a lot of talk about how Blashill talks about truly trusting only the Blackhawks’ own stats over what’s available to those of us outside the organization. I highly recommend a looong tweet from Scott Powers on Saturday night in which he outlines how he personally went back and tracked the first period of Friday night’s game himself to compare his numbers to the ones Blashill cited at practice on Saturday and what we see on Natural Stat Trick. His tweet it too long to fully embed and it took me multiple screengrabs to get it all here. With an assist in the first period against the Mammoth on Saturday night, Nikita Kucherov passed Steven Stamkos to become the Tampa Bay Lightning’s career points leader. The Washington Capitals claimed defenseman Jack St. Ivany off waivers from the Winnipeg Jets. I mentioned him as a guy I was intrigued by for the Blackhawks on Saturday. He did get claimed, but not by Chicago.

Blackhawks Prospect Highlights

The Blackhawks pipeline had a night in the NCAA ranks. Xavier Villeneuve had three assists (in the first 33 minutes of game time) in a 6-3 win for Boston University over UConn. Václav Nestrašil scored twice and defenseman Samu Alalauri was credited with a team-high six shots on net for UMass in a 5-3 win over Stonehill. Nestrašil was also credited with two blocked shots and Alalauri blocked one in the game.
