Fitter and Faster Swim Camps is the proud sponsor of SwimSwam’s College Recruiting Channel and all commitment news. For many, swimming in college is a lifelong dream that is pursued with dedication and determination. Fitter and Faster is proud to honor these athletes and those who supported them on their journey.
Peter Kovacs from Bloomington, Indiana, has announced his intention to remain in town to swim and study at Indiana University beginning in the 2028-29 school year. He wrote on social media:
“I’m excited to announce my verbal commitment to Indiana University! I’m incredibly thankful for everyone who has helped me get to this point and supported me along the way. I’m excited for this next chapter and all that’s to come! Go Hoosiers! ”
Kovacs attends Bloomington South High School and swims year-round with Indiana Swim Club. He’s the top sprinter in the cohort, and we ranked him 8th on our Way Too Early list of top boys’ swimming recruits in the high school class of 2028.
As a sophomore last year at the IHSAA Boys’ Swimming and Diving State Championships, Kovacs won the 50 free (20.12) and 100 free (43.79). The 100 was a lifetime best and he set a PB in the 50 (20.03) in prelims. Both times were significantly faster than his performances at 2025 Winter Juniors East, when he clocked then-best times of 20.39/44.79 in prelims. He also swam a PB of 1:36.12 in the 200 free, placing 10th overall.
In addition to sprint free, Kovacs swims fly and back. At the NCSA Spring Championships, he put up lifetime bests in the 100 fly (48.43) for 18th place, and the 100 back (49.46) for 33rd. He was 6th in the 50 free (20.21) and 7th in the 200 free (1:36.59).
Kovacs kicked off long course season at Indy Cup, where he established new PBs in the 100 free (51.30) and 100 fly (54.95). He added a new time in the 50 fly (24.81) at TYR PSS Indy, and then wrapped up the season at U.S. Nationals, where he competed in the 50/100/200 free and 50/100 fly and lowered his times in the 100 free (50.62) and 200 free (1:53.69).
Kovacs will join Indiana’s class of 2032 with #18 Josiah Collins, “Honorable Mention” Sawyer Wilson, and “Best of the Rest” Adam Barlow. The Hoosiers won the conference title at the 2026 Big Ten Championships. With nearly 2 years left before he sets foot on campus, Kovacs’ 50 free time would have just snuck into the ‘C’ final, and his other times are close to the scoring range: it took 43.71/1:35.63 to get second swims in the 100/200 free and 46.48/46.54 in the fly/back.
Best SCY times:
50 free – 20.03 (best in class) 100 free – 43.79 (best in class) 200 free – 1:36.12 100 fly – 48.43 100 back – 49.46If you have a commitment to report, please send an email with a photo (landscape, or horizontal, looks best) and a quote to Recruits@swimswam.com.
