The South African Football Players Union announced on Saturday, July 11, that the 25-year-old soccer star, a midfielder who played for both the Mamelodi Sundowns and Bafana Bafana, had died.

According to Gayton McKenzie, South Africa’s minister of sports, arts and culture, authorities have not established an official cause of death at the time of publication. In a written statement shared in the wake of the player’s death, McKenzie urged the media and fans to abstain from speculation.

In her May tribute, Adendorf praised her late partner for his dedication and hard work, adding that she would remain by his side as he continued his soccer career.
“No matter how far this journey takes you, just know I’ll always be your biggest supporter, loudest cheerleader, and safest place,” she wrote at the time. “This is only the beginning for you, my love. May God continue to guide your steps, protect you, and open even bigger doors for you future. Keep shining, keep believing, and keep making us proud.
