An Amazon facility in suburban Matteson was on lockdown early Monday morning after an employee was shot and killed in the parking lot, a village spokesperson confirmed.
According to Matteson spokesperson Sean Howard, the shooting took place just before midnight at the facility, located at 7001 Vollmer Rd.
Howard said the shooting unfolded when an Amazon employee became involved in an altercation with a person in the facility’s parking lot. Gunfire ensued, Howard said, and the person fled the scene.
The Amazon employee succumbed to their wounds and died, Howard said. The employee was later identified by the Medical Examiner as Dylan Perkin, 26, of Glenwood.
As of Monday morning, the facility was on lockdown, Howard said. There was no danger to the public.
No further details were provided.
Video from the scene early Monday morning showed police cars could be seen in front of the facility, with yellow police tape blocking off an entrance.
