The Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) have decided to launch Afghanistan Premier League (APL) on December 27, 2026, in the UAE with 5 franchises. They are introducing a competition built around one of the sport's most passionate fan bases, and also a step towards bringing in a lot of young players and developing them for international cricket.
As ACB Chairman Mirwais Ashraf stated, "The Afghanistan Premier League is a strategic step forward for Afghan cricket. Through the APL, we aim to establish a sustainable and globally recognized cricket property that showcases Afghan talent, attracts international investment, and contributes to the long-term growth of the game."

"Following the launch, organisers will move into the next phase, which includes finalising franchise identities, confirming commercial partners, and progressing the player auction or draft process," the release said. However, they did not confirm the date last year, and now, as per reports from CricTracker, they have released the date.
