ROCHESTER, N.Y. — Gas prices in Rochester remain high, as efforts to end the war with Iran face new challenges, but prices have fallen slightly compared to a week ago and a month ago.

Rochester’s average gas price was $4.50 per gallon on Monday morning, according to AAA’s latest report. That’s about four cents lower than a week ago and five cents lower than a month ago. This comes as the Strait of Hormuz, through which 20% of the world’s oil supply passes, remains shut down. It also comes after Israel and Iran traded fire in their first attacks since the U.S. agreed to a ceasefire with Iran two months ago.

Rochester’s average remains higher than the national average, which was $4.16 per gallon on Monday. The national average has dropped 16 cents compared to a week ago, and 38 cents compared to a month ago. Rochester’s average is one cent lower than Buffalo’s average and about the same as Syracuse’s average.
