“And so, when I saw that from Dugger—he can bend as well. So, watch Dugger when he makes tackles. A lot of guys play high, really high. He’s a guy that can bend, sink in his hips, and find a way to still make really good plays.”

The 49ers have proven they operate too earnestly on the belief that what they think they know is reality. They don’t play the game in the way LA is willing to.
That’s not to say they haven’t gotten the better of the Rams. The Christian McCaffrey trade was a crowning achievement in that regard.
They’ve made great moves. They got Trent Williams for pennies. Trades for the likes of Charles Omenihu and Keion White brought in cheap D-line elevators. The Osa Odighizuwa looks like it could be a sneaky outstanding piece of business.
But the one other time the 49ers did swing for the fences outside of McCaffrey, it was for Trey Lance.

There’s a different game being played by the Rams and Seahawks. As it stands, the 49ers are simultaneously under-prepared and without any recourse.
Much of that has to do with the reality that the 49ers are playing the game “the right way.” They are trying to build sustainably.
Here’s the problem. The Rams aren’t. And the Seahawks already have.
There is a not-so-hidden layer to the Rams’ vision of the future. That vision doesn’t exist. At least, not for Sean McVay.
