Junior Nationals qualifier Henry Yang has announced his verbal commitment* to swim and study at Brown University beginning in the fall of 2027. He publicized the news on SwimCloud, writing:
I am grateful and excited to announce my verbal commitment to the admissions process at Brown University to swim D1 and continue my academic career. I’d like to thank all of my friends and family for supporting me through this process and getting me to where I am today. I’d also like to thank Coach Hector and Coach Andrew for their guidance and exceptional coaching. Lastly, I’d like to thank Coach Kevin and Coach Matt for this incredible opportunity. GO BRUNO!
A junior at Flintridge Preparatory School in California, Yang has competed for the school’s swimming and diving team since his freshman year. In addition to representing the Wolves, he also trains year-round with Rose Bowl Aquatics, where he primarily specializes in breaststroke and IM.
Over the course of the 2025-26 short course season, Yang dropped two seconds in the 200 IM, a second and a half in the 200 breast, and almost a full second in the 100 breast. He clocked his best times in the 100 breast (54.72) and 200 IM (1:49.53) at the California Interscholastic Federation-Southern Section Division II meet earlier in the month, upgrading from silver to gold in the former and sixth to fourth in the latter. He then went on to clock his current lifetime best of 1:59.01 in the 200 breast at the Rose Bowl Aquatics Post CIF Intrasquad a couple of weeks later.
Outside of those competitions, Yang is also a Winter Juniors and Summer Junior Nationals qualifier. He made the ‘C’ final of the 100 breast at the West location of Winter Juniors this past December, while his best-ever placement at Summer Juniors is his 41st-place finish in the 100 breast last July.

100 Breaststroke: 54.72 200 Breaststroke: 1:59.01 200 IM: 1:49.53A Division I program, Brown competes in the Ivy League Conference, with the men’s team placing sixth out of eight teams at this past season’s conference championships. Yang’s current career bests would have made the ‘C’ finals of the 100/200 breast, and he is about a second and a half offf the 200 IM ‘C’ final cutoff of 1:48.07, already putting him in position to be an immediate contributor with two full seasons of training still ahead before his first conference meet.
Yang joins Johnny Macko, Henry Holtan, Ethan Landon, Alen Cindric, and John Landers in committing to the Bears’ class of 2031 so far.
*Note: A verbal commitment between an Ivy League coach and a prospective student-athlete is not an offer of admission, as only the Admission Office has that authority. The coach can only commit his or her support in the admission process. Ivy League Admission Offices do not issue “Likely Letters” before October 1 of the prospective student-athlete’s senior year of high school. The Likely Letter, while issued after an initial read of the student’s application, is not an offer of admission to the university.
