2026 Estonia National Swimming Championships

May 15-17, 2026 Long Course Meters (50 meters) Meet Results

Estonia hosted its national championship meet over the weekend, which featured four of the five members of its National A Team.

The best individual swim of the meet by AQUA points came from Eneli Jefimova, who won the women’s 50 breaststroke in 30.55. The 19-year-old, already a two-time Olympian, is the defending European Champion in the 100 breaststroke in long course, but she only swam the 50 at this meet.

Jefimova is the established Estonian star in the breaststroke races, but not far behind her is the fast-rising Egle Salu, a year younger. She finished 2nd in the 50 breaststroke in 31.06 and won the 100 breaststroke in 1:09.80.

Salu is the 2025 European Junior silver medalist in the 50 breaststroke and the only other woman on the National A Team. Both represent Kalevi Swim School, which is run by one of Estonia’s great swimming heroes of all-time, Martti Aljand.

On the men’s side, Ralf Tribuntsov won a trio of events, taking the 50 free in 22.43, 100 free in 49.37, and the 50 back in 24.98.

At 31, Tribuntsov is still swimming best times – that 100 free time is a new Estonian National Record, shaving .02 seconds off his own time from this meet in the same pool last year.

He is the defending European Short Course Champion in the 50 back.

Daniel Zaitsev won the 50 and 100 meter butterfly races in 23.49 and 54.20, respectively.

The Revelations

Outside of the traditional guard, one new Estonian Record was set and three new Estonian Age Records fell as well.

In the men’s 1500 free, 19-year-old Mark Iltsisin broke his own National Record for the second time in three weeks.

He broke the record in 2024 at the European Junior Championships with a 15:46.49. His times stalled out for almost two years after that, but have since reignited. On April 23, he lowered the record to 15:46.11 and then on Friday he dropped it again to 15:45.35.

After his previous record-setting swim three weeks ago, his coach Aljand (he trains for the same club as Salu and Jefimova, among others), said that he was hoping for a better time.

“Neither of them (Maari Randvali set a National Record in the 100 back three weeks ago) was fully happy,” Aljand posted. “They both want to go faster. It is possible to celebrate a good swim and also be hungry for more. That is a champion’s mindset that drives real progress.”

The biggest breakout star of the meet was arguably 14-year-old Emily-Parli Jaarats. The swimmer, who ages up in two weeks, won seven individual events at the meet, with a range of victories from the 50 free to the 400 IM.

Jaarats’ Wins:

50 free – 26.16 (previous PB 26.54) 100 free – 57.47 50 back – 30.14 50 fly – 28.00 100 fly – 1:01.83 200 IM – 2:18.85 (previous PB: 2:22.71) 400 IM – 5:06.34

Of those wins, both best times were new Estonian Age Records for girls 16 & under: the 50 free and the 200 IM. She also holds the record in the 100 fly from March.

Her wins in the 50 free, 100 free, 50 fly, and 400 IM were overall wins, while the other three races were in the 16 & unders age group.

She was one of two swimmers to break an Estonian Age Record at the meet. Richard Kivirand, who turns 14 this year, broke the boys’ 14 & unders record in the 200 back with a 2:09.34.

In March, he became the first Estonian in this age group to go under 2:10 with a 2:09.43, and this weekend he shaved another tenth off the time.

He won that race for his age group at this meet by six-and-a-half seconds, in spite of swimming up against swimmers as old as 16.
