2026 OPEN BELGIAN SWIMMING CHAMPIONSHIPS
Friday, May 15th – Sunday, May 17th Olympic Swimming Pool Wezenberg, Antwerp, Belgium LCM (50m) Meet Central Day 1 Recap/Day 2 Recap Live Results LivestreamThe third and final day of racing at the 2026 Open Belgian Swimming Championships wrapped up last night from Antwerp, but not before a national record bit the dust at the hands of Noah de Schryver.
Competing in the final of the men’s 200m breaststroke, 24-year-old de Schryver stopped the clock at a speedy result of 2:10.15, the best time of his career.
Entering this competition, de Schryver’s personal best and Belgian standard stood at the 2:10.83 he put on the books at this same competition three years ago.
Last night, he split 29.40/32.79/33.37/34.59 to get to the wall about a second behind Olympic medalist Caspar Corbeau of the Netherlands.
Corbeau turned in a time of 2:09.17 for gold, a mark within striking distance of the season-best 2:08.76 established at last month’s Malmsten Swim Open Stockholm. That checked him in as the 7th-swiftest man in the world this season.
Bartel Vranken wrangled up bronze in last night’s race, hitting 2:16.89 to also land on the podium.
The women’s 200m breaststroke final also had an Olympic medalist among the field, with Tes Schouten of the Netherlands getting it done for gold.
25-year-old Schouten, who missed last year’s championship season due to health issues, put up a solid effort of 2:24.60 to beat the pack by over three seconds.
Host nation swimmers Grace Palmer and Zinke Delcommune picked up the minor medals, with the former logging 2:27.77 and the latter producing 2:29.82.
As for Schouten, her 2:24.60 here was just over a second behind the 2:23.35 she delivered in Stockholm to take over slot #7 in the season’s world rankings.
National record holder Florine Gaspard dove in for the women’s 50m freestyle, where she found success in a speedy time of 24.94.
That represented the sole time of the pack to clear the 25-second barrier, with Fleur Bussels reaping silver in 25.79 and Nore Michiels touching in 25.98 to round out the podium.
Gaspard’s national record remains at the 24.42 she established at the 2024 edition of the Swim Open Stockholm, so she was just over half a second off that mark yesterday evening. She’s been as swift as 24.61 this season, a time she put up at the Lausanne Swim Cup to rank 15th in the world at the moment.
Additional Notes
The women’s 400m free saw Sarah Dumont grab the gold in a result of 4:08.42, the sole time of the field under the 4:15 threshold. That’s a big-time personal best for the Belgian, destroying her previous PB of 4:10.47 from a year ago. She continues to inch up on the reigning national record of 4:06.27 Valentine Dumont registered at the 2023 Sette Colli Trophy. Lucas Henveaux took on the men’s 1500m freestyle and dominated the event, hitting a monster personal best of 15:16.95. The next-closest competitor was represented by Florentin Lovens, who put up 15:54.06, followed by Gautier Sobrie, who notched 15:56.81. The Belgian record, a time of 15:11.04 from Tom Vangeneugden at the 2008 Olympic Games, is one of the oldest standing national benchmarks yet to be broken.Read the full story on SwimSwam: Corbeau Takes 200 Breast As De Schryver Notches Record At 2026 Belgian Championships
