Nashville Super Bowl in 2030, One Delusional Mayor, Ranking NFL Week 1 Action, and Other Bears Bullets ...Middle East

Day 119 of the Chicago Bears offseason. I’m so glad ice cream was on sale this week because it satisfies my sweet tooth, saves me money, and lets me not turn on my oven on a warm day.

It sounds like the Super Bowl is on the cusp of going to Music City. ESPN has a story on Nashville being the potential host of Super Bowl LXIV, which will take place in 2030. Nashville’s new stadium, which is expected to open in 2027, joins SoFi Stadium (2027), Mercedes-Benz Stadium (2028), and Allegiant Stadium (2029) as upcoming Super Bowl locations. How many of these games will the Bears play in? And how many will they win? This feels like a good time to point out that, back in September 2025, Bears President Kevin Warren said he wanted to finalize the team’s stadium plans so the team could put in a bid to host a Super Bowl in 2031. I’m not sure how much that timeline has changed in the 252 days that have since passed, but it sure would be nice to have clarity on the matter. When do the Bears need to have a stadium built to start planning these types of things?

It is wild to think about how the Bills announced their stadium plan in March 2022. And while the Bears put the wheels in motion that September, it feels like it is still light-years away. Perhaps we will get a worthwhile update on the Bears stadium situation during the league’s spring meetings this week. The mayor’s office tells the Sun-Times it still believes Chicago is in play to be the future home of Bears football, citing “challenges” the sites in suburban Arlington Heights and Hammond (Ind. are having. As someone who gets delusional about their favorite teams, I can understand this line of thinking. Heck, it is quite relatable to believe in the impossible. But the Bears have made it clear that the only two stadium locations under consideration are the ones at Arlington Park and the alternative across the border in Indiana. At some point, you have to tell the delulu portion of your brain to hush and face reality. Bears President Kevin Warren. © Mark J. Rebilas-Imagn Images A ranking of every Week 1 game that will kick off the NFL’s 2026 regular season was something I found to be worth reading. And while the Bears-Panthers matchup might not have been the one that so many fans wanted, it scores highly on this list. Check out this excerpt:

5. Bears at Panthers — The Caleb Williams vs. Bryce Young clash is shaping up to be an extremely fun matchup between two young quarterbacks. Both showed signs of excellence last year in leading their teams to division titles, and the one that beats the other in the 2026 opener will be on their way to cementing themselves as a star. Young has more to gain as he enters a pivotal contract year, so getting off to a strong start would go a long way in generating even more trust from the front office, locking up a long-term deal and shaking off the doubts about his outlook as a starter in this league.

— Bleacher Nation Bears (@BN_Bears) May 18, 2026 Record predictions for the 2026 Bears via the Chicago Tribune beat include a 9-8 forecast (Brad Biggs), a pair of reporters (Sean Hammond, Phil Thompson) who envision an 11-6 campaign. No one with the Bears has an invite to the NFL’s new-look accelerator program for coaching and general manager candidates, which “is intended to focus on advancing talent from underrepresented groups, while remaining open to qualified senior-level candidates of all backgrounds.” However, there are some names Bears fans have familiarity with who make the cut: Chiefs OC Eric Bieniemy (Chicago” RBs coach in 2025) Vikings QB Coach Josh McCown (played for the team in 2011 and 2013) Lions Passing Game Coordinator Mike Kafka (interviewed for the head coach gig in 2025)

My biggest takeaway from the Cubs-Sox weekend series is that the Cubs have some pitching issues they need to clean up. With that being said, I’ve long maintained that getting apoplectic before Memorial Day. And, frankly, things don’t get serious until my birthday comes in the beginning of July. I’ll probably check in around then with updated thoughts and feelings. The other notable takeaway from the weekend is that the Sox are probably good enough to make some noise in the AL Central. Not that they don’t have issues of their own, but they’ve got some pieces to work with out south. BN Bulls writer Alex Kirschenbaum wonders if the Bulls’ lottery luck will hurt the team’s free agency plans. I have no expectations for the Bulls’ offseason because I’m not sure which direction this new-look front office will take. In a way, that is what will make it fun to follow them and their offseason pursuits. Teuvo Teravainen’s time at the hockey World Championships has come to an end.
