San Jose Valley Christian senior Yury Kuzmenko put his name in the record book three times at the CIF Central Coast Sectional Championships.

Committed to Princeton, Kuzmenko set two individual Central Coast Section records in the sprint freestyle events, clocking personal best times to claim the 50 free (19.30) and the 100 free (42.77).

Kuzmenko was also a part of Valley Christian’s team in the 200 medley relay that set a new Section record time of 1:29.41. Kuzmenko split 18.73 on the freestyle leg to bring the team home. Other team members were Garlic Shao (22.20) and Jack Cameron (24.27) and Robert White (23.14).

Kuzmenko wasn’t the only record-setter in the meet. Saratoga senior Kelsey Zhang, King’s Academy senior Nathan Foucu and Valley Christian senior Shareef Elaydi also set Section records.

In the team standings, Archbishop Mitty swept the girls’ and boys’ titles. The girls won by 76.5 points over Palo Alto, while the boys won by 47 over Valley Christian.

The top three finishers in each event qualified for this weekend’s CIF State Championships.

Girls’ Recap

Zhang, who has committed to Cal, set a Section record in the 200 IM with a time of 1:57.12. She also won the 100 fly with a time of 52.99.

There were two other multi-event winners, Woodside sophomore Clara Young and Leigh freshman Aya Gillis-Pade.

Young swept the sprint freestyle events, claiming the 50 free in 22.87 and the 100 free in 49.77, both personal best times.

Gillis-Pade won the 200 free in 1:48.62 and the 100 back in a personal best time of 54.08.

Other event winners were:

200 Medley Relay — Archbishop Mitty, 1:43.70.

1-Meter Diving — Hailey Tipton (Pioneer) 504.64.

500 Free — Malia Groen (Lehigh) Jr. 4:49.19.

200 Free Relay — Mountain View 1:35.86

100 Breast — Emma O’Young (Archbishop Mitty) 1:02.30.

400 Free Relay — Archbishop Mitty 3:27.80.

Girls Team Standings — Top 5

Archbishop Mitty, 255 Palo Alto, 178.5 Mountain View, 162 Leigh, 155 Woodside, 151

Boys’ Recap

Elaydi also had a big meet, setting a Section record in the 100 breast with a personal best time of 52.01. He also won the 200 IM in 1:46.68 and was a part of Archbishop Mitty’s 200 free relay team that won in a Section record time of 1:22.24. Elaydi led off with a 20.46 split, followed by Nick Sifferman (20.22), Tony Huang (21.19) and Enzo Balbuena (20.37).

Foucu, who has committed to Stanford, set a Section record in the 200 free with a time of 1:34.55.

The other multi-event winner was Gunn senior Nate Yoon, a Cornell commit. Yoon won the 100 fly in 47.32 and the 100 back in 47.59, both personal best times.

Other event winners were Jensen Craig of Palo Alto in 1-meter diving (502.95 points), Michael Powell of Menlo-Atherton in the 500 free (4:26.58) and Bellarmine College Prep in the 400 free relay (3:03.11).
