The Chicago Bears will not be taking their talents to Madrid in 2026.
In the latest bit of news from the NFL schedule release drip, the league announced which team will face off against the Atlanta Falcons when the team plays one of its “home” games in Madrid, Spain. And it’s … not the Bears, who could have been considered for the contest. Instead, it is the Cincinnati Bengals:

— NFL Network (@nflnetwork) May 12, 20262026 Chicago Bears Schedule Will NOT Feature a Trip to Spain
We have been writing about the possibility of the Bears playing in Spain since 2023. It’s a shame it hasn’t happened yet.
On the one hand, I would have loved taking a trip to Madrid to see the Bears play football. I went to Barcelona when I was in seventh grade. It was part of a foreign exchange student program that I look back on fondly when thinking about my youth. But it has always left me wanting to take a return trip. So, through that lens, I’m a little bummed about a Spain trip not being a possibility. But on the other hand, it is one fewer extended trip the Bears have to make. All things considered, I consider a net win.
Plus, the Bears playing the Falcons in Atlanta means that one of the most affordable road games for fans to attend is very much in play. There are plenty of good food, drink, and touristy options for fans of all ages. In short, Atlanta is one of the better road trip destinations for fans. Plus, I know there are a bunch of Chicagoland transplants in and around the area and region. That could very well be a Falcons road game depending on how much of the Mercedes-Benz Stadium gets taken over by fans of Chicago football team.

There has been ample speculation about Week 1 being against the Seattle Seahawks, but nothing firm has been announced. And while it is fun to discuss the possibilities, I’m at a point where I just want the announcement. Don’t get me wrong. I get a hoot thinking about how the league has turned an announcement of what time, date, and channel games will be played. But let’s get on with the show already!
These are the games we know so far:
WEEK 1: 49ers at Rams (in Australia) WEEK 1: Dallas Cowboys at New York Giants (SNF Debut) WEEK 1: Denver Broncos at Kansas City Chiefs (MNF Debut) WEEK 2: Detroit Lions at Buffalo Bills (TNF debut, Bills new stadium opener) WEEK 3: Baltimore Ravens at Dallas Cowboys (in Brazil) WEEK 12: Philadelphia Eagles at Dallas Cowboys (Thanksgiving)And to think, the league still has to announce games that will be played on Thanksgiving Eve, Black Friday, and Christmas Day (it’ll be a triple-header). Plus, the league also created Saturday island game windows in Weeks 16, 17, and 18 for NBC, CBS, and FOX. There is so much of this puzzle that needs to be filled out. Hurry up and do it already, please!
