Petroleum and Mineral Resources Minister Karim Badawi discussed on Monday, May 11, 2026, with Secretary-General of the African Petroleum Producers Organization (APPO) Farid Ghazali means to support Egyptian-African integration efforts in the energy industry.

During the meeting, the minister proposed studying the organization of a ministerial session for energy ministers of APPO member states on the sidelines of the African Union Mid-Year Coordination Summit, which is scheduled to be hosted in the city of El Alamein next June toproviding a platform for dialogue and coordination on energy priorities in the continent and ways to support development projects and strengthen African integration in the energy sector.

Badawi welcomed the APPO secretary-general on his first visit to Cairo since assuming office and lauded the organization’s efforts to foster collaboration among African states and maximize the continent’s resource utilization to advance economic development and secure energy needs.

He highlighted the importance of joint action to address challenges facing Africa’s energy sector, particularly in securing financing for infrastructure projects, stressing that the continent possesses vast opportunities and resources that require deeper cooperation and exchange of expertise among member states.

The meeting reviewed the latest updates regarding the launch of the African Energy Bank as one of the organization’s strategic initiatives and its expected role in financing oil and gas projects across the continent.

The two sides also underlined the importance of strengthening regional cooperation through training centers and capacity-building programs, benefiting from Egypt’s expertise in training and supporting the qualification of African human resources and the transfer of technical know-how.

The minister noted Egypt has a strong base of national companies specialized in implementing oil and gas infrastructure projects, including ENPPI, Petrojet, EBRD-related EPC firms, and Egypt Gas, as well as the Egyptian Drilling Company and Modern Drilling Company, which have successfully executed major projects inside and outside Egypt, enhancing their ability to contribute to energy and infrastructure projects across Africa and support development plans and knowledge transfer.

For his part, Ghazali expressed appreciation for Egypt’s supportive role in APPO activities, praising Egypt’s advanced infrastructure and globally reputable national companies, and expressing the organization’s aspiration to expand cooperation with Egypt and other member states, particularly in training fields.

He announced the launch of an African training platform within the continent by the end of this year, commending Egypt’s part in backing joint African action and benefiting from its successful experience in developing the energy sector.
