Each of Munson’s goals gave UNC the lead. Her first, in the 37th minute, opened the scoring and staked the Tar Heels to a 1-0 advantage at halftime. After Louisville equalized in the 60th minute, Munson scored barely four minutes later to restore Carolina’s lead. Louisville answered again in the 73rd minute, only for Munson to score one more time in the 80th. This time, the Cardinals could not find an equalizing goal.

Munson, a sophomore defender, entered the night with only five goals to her name all season and just two against ACC opponents. She’s now scored four times in the Tar Heels’ last two outings.
Thursday’s win is UNC’s fifth against a ranked opponent this season and second to come on the road. The Tar Heels have now won three straight matches since a loss at No. 4 Wake Forest in October, which stands as Carolina’s only defeat in ACC competition. UNC ends the regular season at 15-2 overall and 8-1 in conference play. Up next is the ACC Tournament, which begins Nov. 8. The Tar Heels are guaranteed to be no worse than the No. 2 seed in the six-team field, which means they will receive a bye into the conference semifinals Thursday, Nov. 12 at the WakeMed Soccer Park in Cary.
