Chicago Cubs Lineup: Michael Conforto Starting Again, Batting Second ...Middle East

Sport by : (Bleacher Nation) -

CUBS LINEUP — The Cubs just had one of the best homestands in recent memory. In fact, it literally could not have gone any better. They went 7-0 against the Diamondbacks and Reds, extending their win streak at Wrigley Field to 15 games. Today, they travel to Arlington, Texas, to face the Rangers, looking to keep their nine-game winning streak alive.

Here’s a look at the Chicago Cubs lineup for Game 1.

Chicago Cubs Lineup:

Nico Hoerner, 2B Michael Conforto, DH Alex Bregman, 3B Ian Happ, LF Seiya Suzuki, RF Michael Busch, 1B Carson Kelly, C Pete Crow-Armstrong, CF Dansby Swanson, SS

Michael Conforto is in the starting lineup for the second straight game, which is both interesting and fun. Not only is he starting, but he’s also hitting second, a big move up from the six-spot yesterday. He’s been outstanding this season, with two home runs in the Reds series, including the walk-off blast on Monday. However, that means no Moisés Ballesteros in the lineup, at least to begin the game.

Other than Conforto, it’s the regular lineup for Craig Counsell. With how well this team has been hitting, there is no reason to change things up. Just keep letting the bats do their thing.

One specific name that I’m really excited to see tonight is Pete Crow-Armstrong, who is hitting eighth. Crow-Armstrong just had a fantastic series against the Reds, which included the game-tying home run in the bottom of the ninth inning on Wednesday night. He has a .911 OPS in his last 15 games, continuing to heat up after a slow start to the season.

Not only has he been seeing the ball well lately, but he also matches up really well against tonight’s opposing pitcher, Kumar Rocker. Against left-handed hitters, Rocker leans heavily on his sinker (29%) and slider (37%). This year, Crow-Armstrong has done particularly well against those two pitches. PCA is hitting .421 against sinkers, with a .455 wOBA and a 41.2% hard-hit rate. Against sliders, he is hitting .444 with a .503 wOBA and a 46.2% hard-hit rate.

Texas Rangers Lineup:

Brandon Nimmo, RF Ezequiel Duran, 2B Corey Seager, SS Josh Jung, 3B Evan Carter, CF Joc Pederson, DH Jake Burger, 1B Alejandro Osuna, LF Danny Jansen, C

Pitching Matchup:

Chicago Cubs: Ben Brown, RHP

Tonight, Ben Brown will make his first start since July 27, 2025. He’s been spectacular out of the bullpen for the Cubs this season, often giving them multiple quality innings each outing.

Michael talked yesterday about the decision to give Brown a start, and he’s spot on. Not only has the bullpen gained a few pieces back, but Brown’s new third pitch should help him become a more viable option when facing a lineup more than just one time.

In 25.2 innings this season, Brown has a 2.10 ERA and 1.01 WHIP. He went 14 innings without giving up a run, a streak that spanned across seven outings. He’s limiting hard contact, which is giving him much better results on the mound. He will be on a pitch count tonight, as he’s not all the way stretched out, but hopefully he can be efficient enough to go 3-4 innings.

Texas Rangers: Kumar Rocker, RHP

It’s been a rough start to the season for Kumar Rocker, who has a 4.71 ERA and 1.47 WHIP through his first six starts.

Rocker only started 14 times for the Rangers last season due to an injury and then spent some time in Triple-A. After being selected third overall by the Rangers in the 2022 draft, it’s fair to say that he hasn’t lived up to those expectations quite yet.

The 26-year-old mainly throws a sinker and slider, adding in a changeup, four-seam fastball, and cutter against left-handed batters. Opponents are hitting just .209 off his slider, much better than a .353 average against his sinker. Due to the Cubs having a mix of lefties and righties in their lineup tonight, Rocker’s full pitch mix should be in play.

Rocker faced the Cubs twice in Spring Training this year, allowing three runs across six innings.
