Police in suburban Gurnee say three juveniles have been taken into custody in connection to a series of burglaries in the community.
According to police, Gurnee detectives were conducting surveillance in nearby Waukegan as part of an investigation into a string of commercial burglaries and stolen vehicles when they observed a stolen Kia.
The officers, in conjunction with Waukegan police and several other agencies, were able to take a 16-year-old and two 17-year-olds into custody.
It is believed the teens stole the Kia, and were also involved in a number of other burglaries that targeted suburban businesses in the month of April.
It is believed that at least 40 burglaries may be connected across Lake County, according to authorities. Additional charges are pending in the case, according to the Lake County State’s Attorney’s Office.
“This case reflects the complexity of investigating a series of related incidents across multiple jurisdictions and the importance of strong collaboration among law enforcement partners,” said Gurnee Police Chief Jeremy Gaughan. “While investigations like this often take time and may not always be visible to the public, our officers and detectives are working behind the scenes every day to protect our community. We recognize the impact these crimes have had on our business owners, and we hope this development provides a measure of reassurance that those responsible are being identified and held accountable.”
