POINT LOMA – Several Point Loma High teams are in a good position to win championships as league games are underway.

Baseball

The Dogs are in a three-way tie with Cathedral Catholic and Patrick Henry, all with 3-1 records. The Pointers split their two-game series with St. Augustine, scoring five fourth-inning runs while reliever Hunter Weller came on to throw 4.2 shutout innings, preserving a 6-5 victory on the Saints’ diamond.

The Pointers swept Coronado, winning 4-2 at home as Jaxon Seiler and Wyatt Olson each had two RBIs. At Coronado, and 8-3 away. At Coronado, Olson had two doubles and four RBIs while Ace Selchow pitched six innings for the win.

The remaining series are against Cathedral Catholic, Patrick Henry, and University City.

Softball

The girls are alone at 3-0 in league play. In a 12-2 win over Cathedral Catholic, freshman Remington Spangler had a single and two home runs for seven RBIs.

In another 12-2 win against Patrick Henry, Ella Poulin was the winning pitcher and also had a double and a home run that produced six runs. Sage Nelson also homered for the Pointers.

Avery MacPherson continues to lead the team with a .410 batting average.

Remaining league games include two against Scripps Ranch and single games against Christian, Cathedral Catholic, and Patrick Henry.

Boys lacrosse

The undefeated Pointers hold the top spot in league play with wins over San Diego (8-3), University City (8-7 in overtime), and Patrick Henry (11-10). Their remaining game is an away match against Scripps Ranch.

The team is 13-3 overall, an .822 win percentage. They also have a 177-85 advantage in goals scored, a +92 differential. In local rankings, the Pointers are ranked seventh overall in both the CIF San Diego Section and in Div. I.

Beach volleyball

The team carries an 18-3 overall record, 8-2 in league, entering the playoffs.

Boys tennis

CIF playoffs are already underway. The Pointers are seeded No. 14 in Div. II and played No. 3 Mission Bay earlier this week.
