Incoming Auburn football safety Jack Luttrell is medically retiring from football and is no longer listed as a member of the Tigers football team, according to a report from Tigers beat writer Peter Rauterkus on Tuesday.
Luttrell transferred to Auburn by way of Arizona, where he missed most of the 2025 season with a shoulder injury. He saw limited action in Auburn’s spring practice also thanks to injury, which surely contributed to his decision to hang it up with a few seasons of eligibility remaining.

— Peter Rauterkus (@peter_rauterkus) April 28, 2026Luttrell, a native of Moultrie, Georgia, started his career at Tennessee but did not play the 2023 season under head coach Josh Heupel. He transferred to Arizona in 2024 and immediately carved out a role, totaling 39 tackles with 1 pass deflection, 1 forced fumble and 3 interceptions.
He had a solid season debut in 2025 with the Wildcats, too. Luttrell recorded an interception in the first game of the year against Hawaii, then picked up a pair of tackles against Weber State before suffering the aforementioned shoulder injury that kept him sidelined the remainder of the season. Unfortunately, it appears that matchup against the Wildcats was his last in college football.
Luttrell was one of 2 incoming safety additions for Auburn this offseason, joining Fred Gaskin III who followed head coach Alex Golesh from South Florida. The Tigers retain AnQuon Fegans, Sylvester Smith, Champ Anthony and Eric Winters in the safety room heading into Golesh’s first season on the plains.
