Become part of an international wine appreciation campaign ...Middle East

News by : (TribToday) -

Starting soon, the world wine community will be celebrating Share and Pair Sundays.

The project was created last year by Wine Bible author Karen MacNeil and her internationally respected wine authority partners, Gino Colangelo and Kimberly Noelle Charles (who was one of our keynote speakers at License to Steal in Lancaster, Pa. last March).

From their website: “Share & Pair Sundays is a spring campaign that celebrates the delicious marriage of wine and food. The campaign encourages consumers to get together on Sundays to enjoy wine, food, friends and family. This year, Share & Pair Sundays will be promoted (internationally) by Come Together — A Community for Wine….It celebrates the togetherness, the history, and the stories of wine that go beyond what’s in the glass. We recognize that alcoholic wine consumption is not right for every adult. We support and respect the rich community of all who have an interest in great beverages of quality, including beverages that are non-alcoholic. Wine is a communal adult beverage. The Share & Pair Sundays campaign asks that you consume wine responsibly and in moderation.”

The concept behind the project was to help position wine as a beverage of family, friends and togetherness in light of some of the national campaigns trying to position it as an alcoholic beverage to be demonized by some of the anti-alcohol zealots.

Dates for the 2026 celebration are May 3 through June 28.

We will have some marketing materials going out to our wineries to tout the program, but this really is a consumer based “I love wine and I want to share it with those about whom I care” Sundays.

More from their website: “When wine is enjoyed with food and good company, something simple happens: people slow down, conversations unfold and the table becomes a place to connect. In these conversations, voices from across the wine world share why those moments matter—and why wine continues to play a role in bringing people together around the table.”

There are some great recipes at www.shareandpairsundays.com. However, the food does not need to be fancy — bags of chips and pretzels, burgers on the grill or pizza delivered to your door will all match perfectly with your favorite wines when the important people in your life are together, sharing and pairing.

Why should you, your family and your friends participate? First because wine, enjoyed moderately and with food, is such a convivial beverage. You will appreciate conversations with your adult children and grandchildren, old friends, former neighbors and folks you have not seen in a while who might be visiting to enjoy Ohio’s lovely spring and summer seasons.

You can share stories, relate histories and recall holidays and trips taken together, and maybe even remember with pride legends about those who are no longer here.

Perhaps you can plan some wine trail or wine festival weekends to enjoy through the summer.

Getting together in person is so important to all of us as human beings (perhaps you should encourage everyone to put away their cell phones?).

And as a wine lover who lives near some of the state’s best growing regions, it is likely that you are much more of an expert than the average resident of Ohio. Finally, this gives you a chance to join an international campaign touted by dozens of nations around the world.

You will become part of the “in crowd” with like-minded wine lovers living in every corner of the planet.
