The Osmond Brothers were music superstars throughout the 1970s, but their career had humble beginnings. Alan and his brothers Merrill, Wayne, and Jay originally banded together as a singing group in 1958 to raise money for older brothers Virl and Tom's hearing aides.
Their father, George Osmond, sought an audition for his talented sons with Lawrence Welk, but the opportunity materialized. Hoping to lift their spirits, he took them to Disneyland, where the boys caught attention after spontaneously singing alongside the park’s barbershop quartet, The Dapper Dans.
Thereafter, the group quickly became music superstars, selling 77 million albums worldwide. The Osmund's hit No. 1 in February 1971 with "One Bad Apple," No. 3 later that same year with "Yo-Yo," No. 4 in April 1972 with "Down By the Lazy River" and No. 10 in October 1974 with "Love Me For a Reason," per Billboard.
Merrill Osmond honored his brother's legacy via Facebook. He recalled the last moments he spent with Alan, and discussed his deep faith.
Merrill added, "So please, don’t let your hearts be heavy. Don’t weep for him. Rejoice, knowing that your brother, your friend, your hero is no longer in pain. He is free. He is whole. He is home."
