When it comes to the 2026 NFL Draft, our focus for the Chicago Bears’ fits has mainly been in the trenches. On the defensive side of the ball, edge rushers and interior defenders have our attention. And on the offensive side, we have been sorting through left tackle and center prospects. So seeing a wide receiver, such as De’Zhaun Stribling from Ole Miss, pop up in connection with Chicago’s football team adds some spice to our pre-draft work.
ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler has the scoop on the Bears being among the teams hosting De’Zhaun Stribling for a Top 30 visit ahead of the 2026 NFL Draft:

— Jeremy Fowler (@JFowlerESPN) April 9, 20262026 NFL Draft: De’Zhaun Stribling and the Chicago Bears?
De’Zhaun Stribling was well-traveled during his college career, spending his five years on campus with three different teams. Stribling’s odyssey began at Washington State in 2021, then took a two-year stint at Oklahoma State beginning in 2023. The wideout’s collegiate escapades ended with one season at Ole Miss. And it was a solid one, too. Stribling caught 55 passes, gained 811 receiving yards, and scored six touchdowns. All in all, Stribling’s college career saw him have seasons of 50+ catches, 600+ receiving yards, and 5+ touchdowns at three schools. I don’t know if that is a record, but it sounds like a bar trivia stumper to me!
In addition to his production, I imagine De’Zhaun Stribling’s 4.36-second 40-yard dash time is alluring to NFL scouts and talent evaluators. No wonder he has a second-round projection ahead of the 2026 NFL Draft. This is what the prospect profile written by Lance Zierlein has to say about the receiver prospect:
Long-striding, vertical-access wideout with steady play and production. Stribling has good size and early acceleration to climb over the top of coverage but lacks short-area quickness to gain separation underneath. His downfield ball skills are above average but he struggles to consistently carve out catch space and fight through contested-catch contact for tight-coverage wins. He has legit speed after the catch once he finds open grass. He’s also one of the most competitive run blockers in the WR class. Stribling projects as an immediate WR4 who could eventually work his way into a starting role.
Doesn’t that read like what you’d expect for a perfect prospect for Bears Head Coach Ben Johnson’s offense? A receiver with good size and speed who is described as “one of the most competitive run blockers” among the wide receivers in his draft class. There are some thing to iron out in De’Zhaun Stribling’s game. But I have faith in WRs Coach Antwaan Randle El to develop pass catchers based on his time with the Detroit Lions and his first season coaching with the Bears.

Wide receiver isn’t a pressing need for the Chicago Bears, but the departure of DJ Moore opens up opportunities for someone else on the depth chart to get some more targets and touches.
I like Kalif Raymond’s addition in free agency. But I think his role will be limited to a depth receiver and return specialist. And there is nothing wrong with that! Jahdae Walker has the potential to climb up the depth chart and play his way into a bigger target share. And, for what it’s worth, quarterback Caleb Williams has faith in the rising second-year player. But I’d like to see Walker play his way into that role instead of just handing it to him and hoping for the best. Hence, I can see the Bears using a Day 2 pick on a prospect like De’Zhaun Stribling.
The Bears have four picks among the first 89 in the upcoming NFL Draft. With needs at multiple positions along the defensive line, two spots on the offensive line, and throughout the secondary, it might be tough for some to justify Chicago using one of those premium picks on a receiver when the offense has plenty of playmakers. But if Ben Johnson is on board with it, then it won’t take much to talk me into being on board, too.
