Fitter and Faster Swim Camps is the proud sponsor of SwimSwam’s College Recruiting Channel and all commitment news. For many, swimming in college is a lifelong dream that is pursued with dedication and determination. Fitter and Faster is proud to honor these athletes and those who supported them on their journey.

Rio de Janeiro native Manuela Astori has committed to the Penn State University women’s team as a member of the 2026 recruiting class.

Astori wrote the following to SwimSwam regarding her commitment:

I am very excited to announce my commitment to continue my academic and athletic career at Penn State University! I would like to thank my family and friends for their support throughout this journey, and especially my teammates and coaches for helping me get to where I am today. I am also grateful to the entire Penn State staff for welcoming me so warmly, especially Hollie for believing in me. I appreciate all the unconditional support from Coach Alex Pussield, and to the atleta estudante who guided me along this journey. WE ARE!

Astori, who represents Clube de Regatas do Flamengo, specializes in middle-distance freestyle. In September, she competed at the South American Youth Championships in Rio de Janeiro, where she notched a long-course career best in all three of her races that she competed in, including a 3rd place finish in the 400 freestyle (4:19.38), and a pair of 4th place performances in the 800 free (8:59.85) and the 1500 free (17:23.04).

In addition to her freestyle ability, she has a good mix of IM speed. Astori boasts a best long course 200 IM time of 2:20.63 from the 2024 Brazilian Youth Winter Championships in June of 2024, and a 400 IM best of 4:55.26 from the Brazilian National Swimming Championships in April of 2025.

Best Times Converted to SCY:

Event LCM SCY Conversion 200 Free 2:05.68 1:50.34 400 Free 4:19.38 4:50.62 (500 Free) 800 Free 8:59.85 10:04.87 (1000 Free) 1500 Free 17:23.04 17:02.58 (1650 Free) 200 IM 2:20.63 2:03.81 400 IM 4:55.26 4:20.23

Astori joins a Penn State women’s program that recently finished 13th out of 14 teams at the 2026 Women’s Big Ten Swimming and Diving Championships. Based on her best conversions, we can predict that she would have finished 24th in the 500 free, 25th in the 1650 free, and 46th in the 200 free.

Though these placings are just a projection based on converted times, she looks to be just inside of the scoring range in the distance free events, which would be a massive get for the Nittany Lion women, who only scored 5 points in the 500 and 15 points in the 1650 at the NCAA Championships last season.

This pickup for Penn State will be an immediate help, as it will help replace the hole that graduating senior Morgan Moore will leave, having been the fastest 500/1650 freestyler on the team this past season in 4:48.50 and 16:28, respectively. Astori will still get two seasons to train with Julia Barto and one season with Morgan Jenny at Penn State.

A majority of Astori’s racing as of late has focused on freestyle events, but the potential for her to race the IMs is not entirely out of the picture, given the 9 points Penn State scored in the 200 IM and the 0 points scored in the 400 IM at Big Tens.

Astori will join Hailey Marinovich, Sara McNabb, Gabi Abruzzo, Kate Fedor, and Hannah Wilson on Penn State’s campus in the fall.
