Budimex’s bid was the lowest of six received for the passenger terminal’s deep foundation works, which involve installing 8,194 piles and columns with lengths varying from 9m to 30m and a total combined length exceeding 140km.
Budimex will also build intermediate foundations to form the base for the terminal structure.
Contracts are due to be finalised in June 2026, with construction starting later in the year.
Piling works are due to be completed by the end of 2027, with final acceptance planned for early 2028.
The 450,000-sq-m airport is due to be completed by 2032 and is designed by Foster + Partners and Buro Happold.
It was announced in September 2025 that a Budimex and Strabag team were in the running to build the airport’s terminal building, with rival teams including Hochtief and Porr.
The airport will be located 50km west of Warsaw and will form part of the Port Polska megaproject, an overhaul of Poland’s transport network involving 2,000km of high-speed rail and highway upgrades.
The goal is to bring all major Polish cities to within a 2.5 hour journey from the airport.
