Fitter and Faster Swim Camps is the proud sponsor of SwimSwam’s College Recruiting Channel and all commitment news. For many, swimming in college is a lifelong dream that is pursued with dedication and determination. Fitter and Faster is proud to honor these athletes and those who supported them on their journey.

Luan Barnard of Sandy, Utah has announced his commitment to stay in-state and continue his academic and athletic careers at Utah beginning in fall 2026. Barnard is “Best of the Rest” ranked recruit in the boys high school class of 2026.

“I am excited to announce my commitment to The University of Utah. First, I’d like to thank God for guiding me through this journey and being with me every step of the way. I’d also like to thank the coaches at the U for giving me this opportunity to swim for them. And thank you to all my friends and family for being with me and supporting me through this journey. Go Utes.”

Barnard swims for Cottonwood Heights Aquatics out of Salt Lake City and had a strong showing at Winter Juniors-West back in December. There he finished 4th in the 100 backstroke with a 47.34 to finish 4th. He also swam in prelims of the 200 back, 50 free, and 100 free.

He is currently in his senior year at Brighton High School and most recently competed at the Utah 6A State Championship in February. He went two for two in individual state titles, winning the 100 back in a 47.72 and the 200 free in a 1:39.85. He also helped Brighton’s 200 medley relay to a state title and led off their 400 free relay in a lifetime best 44.90.

Barnard’s Best SCY Times Are:

100 back: 47.34 200 back: 1:48.17 100 free: 44.90 200 free: 1:39.85

The Utah men finished 3rd out of seven teams at the 2026 Big 12 Championships with 1305 points. Nicholas Chirafisi led the team with conference titles in the 500 free (4:13.48) and 1650 free (14:52.65).

Based on his best times, Barnard has the potential to make an immediate impact at the conference level. His best time in the 100 back would have made the Big 12 ‘B’ final. It took a 1:46.91 in the 200 back, 44.57 in the 100 free, and a 1:36.75 in the 200 free to earn a second swim. Nolan Dunkel led the team in the 100 back this past season with a 46.13. Dunkle just finished his sophomore season, so the two will overlap for two seasons.

Barnard will arrive this fall as a member of the class of 2030 along with butterflyer Minh Hoang.
