The Egyptian Education Ministry issued a statement on Monday regarding rumors spread online about school closures on Wednesday and Thursday.
The Ministry of Education and Technical Education said that all posts reporting decisions attributed to the Ministry regarding closing classes are false, and no official decisions have been made yet.
The official spokesperson for the Ministry, Shady Zalata, explained that there is ongoing coordination between the Ministry of Education and the Egyptian Meteorological Authority (EMA) to obtain the latest updates on the weather conditions for Wednesday and Thursday in order to make the appropriate decision.
Zalata urged social media users not to be misled by fabricated posts and to rely on accurate information issued by the Ministry of Education.
Tuesday’s weather
The EMA forecast light to moderate rain in parts of the Western Desert, extending into the evening to areas of the North Coast and northern Lower Egypt.
The rain may be occasionally heavy and thundery in areas of Salloum, Marsa Matrouh, and Siwa.
Light rain is also expected in the evening in parts of southern Lower Egypt, the Suez Canal cities, and Greater Cairo, potentially extending to parts of Upper Egypt and northern Red Sea Governorate.
Wind activity is expected in some areas of the northwestern coast and the Western Desert, potentially reducing horizontal visibility to less than 1000 meters in some areas.
This may be accompanied by gusts ranging from 40 to 50 km/h, at an approximately 30 percent chance.
Additionally, dust is expected during the day in parts of Greater Cairo, the Nile Delta, the Suez Canal cities, and Upper and Lower Egypt.
