Ellie Clarke, a 16-year-old out of Carmel Swim Club, ended a terrific meet with a massive swim in the women’s 1650 free. Clarke swam a 16:09.17. That was a phenomenal swim out of the 16-year-old, who held a personal best of 16:58.23 before today. Granted, Clarke has a career best of 16:38.64 in the LCM 1500 free, so she was due for a huge swim in the yards mile. Either way, Clarke won the 1650 by 21 seconds today. With the swim, Clarke also broke into the all-time top 100 for 15-16 girls, landing at #48 all-time.

The men’s mile was equally exciting, seeing Carmel Swim Club’s Whitaker Steward, 18, win with a 14:57.17. He won the race by 10 seconds, though he was a bit off his personal best of 14:51.63, which he swam last March at a Sectional in Columbia, MO.

In the women’s 200 IM, Carmel’s Molly Sweeney clocked a 1:57.73, finishing as the only swimmer in the field to go under 2:00. Sweeney won the race by a wide margin, but was a good bit off her career best of 1:54.58, which she set back in December of 2023.

Carmel’s Yi Zheng, 16, capped off an exceptional meet with a big swim in the men’s 200 IM. Zheng won the race with a 1:45.04. That swim came in a little off Zheng’s personal best of 1:43.60, which he swam last month at the IHSAA Sectional meet in Carmel.

Fort Collins Area Swim Team’s Ella Gaca Thiele won the women’s 50 free in a new personal best of 22.65. Gace Thiele took nearly a quarter-second off her previous best of 22.83 with the swim.

The men’s 50 free saw Mesa Aquatics Club 18-year-old Jason Sugihara rip a 20.05 to claim victory, With the performance, Sugihara took nearly half-a-second off his personal best of 20.54. Sugihara was also great in the 200 IM, where he came in 2nd with a 1:46.01.
