Fitter and Faster Swim Camps is the proud sponsor of SwimSwam’s College Recruiting Channel and all commitment news. For many, swimming in college is a lifelong dream that is pursued with dedication and determination. Fitter and Faster is proud to honor these athletes and those who supported them on their journey.
Jose Rodriguez from Madrid, Spain, has made a verbal commitment to the admission process* at Princeton University for the 2027-28 school year. He confirmed to SwimSwam:
“I am thrilled and proud to share that I have verbally committed to the admissions process at Princeton University. I am extremely grateful to my family, friends, coaches and mentors in Mexico, Spain and the UK for their continued support. Thank you to coaches Matt, Mia and Zach for this opportunity. I am very excited for what’s ahead. Go Tigers!! ”
Rodriguez currently trains with Real Canoe Natación Club and represents Spain internationally. He was previously at Millfield School in the U.K., where he trained under Euan Dale, Keiron Piper, and Ryan Livingstone and was awarded both academic and swimming merit scholarships. After completing his GCSEs, he returned to Spain for 11th grade and enrolled in the IB Diploma program at The Global College in Madrid, again on an academic merit scholarship. He intends to pursue a degree in physics at Princeton.
Rodriguez specializes in breaststroke and IM and is competitive in freestyle and butterfly as well. He is a national champion in both Great Britain and Spain and holds Spanish national records in breaststroke (both LCM and SCM) across several age groups. He also owns Millfield school records in LCM and SCM breast and IM. At the 2025 Aquatics GB Next Gen Championships in July, he won 4 gold (100 breast, 400 free relay, 800 free relay, 400 medley relay) and 3 silver (50/200 breast, 200 IM) medals.
Most recently, he competed at the Spanish Spring Championships (50m), where he won the 50 breast, 200 IM, and 400 IM and placed 5th in the 100 breast and 200 breast. He picked up new PBs in all five events.
If the 2026 Ivy League champs had a weakness this year, it was in breaststroke, where the Tigers had only one contestant in both the 100 breast and 200 breast events at the conference meet. Not only will he bring firepower to the Princeton breaststroke effort, but he will also bolster the strongest IM group in the league. Rodriguez, whose best converted times would have made the ‘B’ finals in the 100 breast, 200 breast, and 200 IM, and the ‘C’ final in the 400 IM, at the 2026 Ivy League Men’s Championships, will thus be a welcome addition to the squad in 2027.
He will join the Tigers’ class of 2031 with fellow verbal commits Jonny Palamar, Cade Vieler, Jack Cunningham, Nemanja Maksic, Kannen Crossland, and Max Van Stone (diving).
Best LCM times (converted):
50 breast – 28.85 (25.09) 100 breast – 1:02.36 (53.71) 200 breast – 2:15.74 (1:57.35) 200 IM – 2:03.33 (1:46.16) 400 IM – 4:28.91 (3:53.77)*Note: A verbal commitment between an Ivy League coach and a prospective student-athlete is not an offer of admission, as only the Admission Office has that authority. The coach can only commit his or her support in the admission process. Ivy League Admission Offices do not issue “Likely Letters” before October 1 of the prospective student-athlete’s senior year of high school. The Likely Letter, while issued after an initial read of the student’s application, is not an offer of admission to the university.
