In a time-trial session after the 2nd session of the 2026 UVA Pro-Am meet, Kate Douglass set a new U.S. Open Record in the women’s 50 freestyle, stopping the clock in 22.94 to take almost two tenths off Gretchen Walsh‘s 23.10 mark from October of 2024.

Douglass’ time will make her the 3rd woman in history to break 23 seconds in the event, and she will slot in just behind Ranomi Kromowidjojo‘s 22.93 from the 2017 World Cup in Berlin, and as the 4th fastest performance in history.
