Vatev, who is committed to Stanford, started his morning in the 200 freestyle, where he swam 1:37.42 to qualify 4th overall, adding about two and a half seconds from his 1:34.79 seed time that he set last month.
He comes in about a second behind Greater Toledo’s London Rising, who swam 1:36.81 for the top seed, about half a second off the 1:36.28 mark he set in February.
At the end of the session, Vatev swam 1:44.60 to qualify 2nd in the 200 fly, dropping a little more than a second from the 1:45.75 he swam at this meet last year. He was only four hundredths behind Aquajet 18-year-old Nathan Carr‘s top time of 1:44.56, which means tonight’s race could be exciting.
On the girls’ side, Sadie Buckley from Nation’s Capital continued to build on her strong meet, earning the top seed in the 400 IM final, touching in 4:08.59, about a second add from the 4:07.87 she swam at the 2024 U.S. Open Championships.

Girls’ 50 Breast: Grace Koenig-Song (WILD) — 28.39, Koenig-Song from NASA Wildcat Aquatics earned the 50 breaststroke top seed in 28.39, a four tenth add from her lifetime best 27.98 that she swam at this meet last year. Girls’ 100 Back: Alyssa Sagle (NCAP) — 51.74, UVA commit, Sagle swam 51.74 in the 100 back, about a second off the 50.56 she swam in February. Boys’ 50 Breast: Ian Disosway (FAST) — 24.73, Disosway, who will be swimming at ASU in the fall, swam 24.73 in the 50 breast to be one of two sub-25 swimmers.
