Some of Chicago’s most iconic holiday traditions are taking place Saturday in celebration of St. Patrick’s Day, and the local LEGOLAND Discovery Center is joining in on the fun.
LEGOLAND Discovery Center Chicago unveiled its own miniature version of the Chicago River dye on the same day that the city’s annual event took place.
The Chicago River dye kicked off at 10 a.m. on Saturday, with boatloads of members of the Chicago Plumbers Union spraying a green concoction out of plumbing pipes and spout pumps into the river.
Over in Schaumburg at the LEGOLAND Discovery Center Chicago in The Streets of Woodfield shopping center, located at 601 N. Martingale Rd., it took LEGOLAND Master Model Builder Jon Paparella far less time to “dye” the miniature replica of the Chicago River than the roughly 45 minutes it takes to dye the actual river green.
Paparella poured more than 1,000 green LEGO bricks into the “water” to “dye” the miniature river.
He also created a miniature replica of a St. Patrick’s Day parade, featuring floats, marching bands and colorful balloons.
The festive displays can be seen now through the end of March.
