Day 2 of the 2026 Columbia Spring Sectionals got off to a great start, seeing Arkansas Dolphins 18-year-old Zoe Smith win the women’s 200 free in 1:46.34. The NC State recruit got her hand on the wall 1st in a tight race with Seahawks Swim Club 17-year-old Alyssa Albertyn, who finished in 1:46.46. The swims for both girls represent career bests. Smith clipped her previous best of 1:46.43, while Albertyn, an Arizona State recruit, took about half a second off her previous best of 1:46.93. Also of note, Razorback Aquatic Club Aquahawgs 14-year-old Lexie D’Amico came in 3rd with a 1:47.19, marking a new personal best by 1.5 seconds.

The men’s 200 free was won resoundingly by River City Aquatics 16-year-old Ty Thomas, who popped a 1:35.55. Thomas, a Louisville recruit, blew out his previous career best of 1:37.73, which was set back in November. He swam an impressively tight race, splitting 47.08 on the opening 100, then coming home in 48.47 on the back half.

Thomas was back in action in the men’s 100 fly, which he won in 46.98 after clocked a 46.81 in prelims. His prelims swim was a personal best, clipping his previous best of 46.88.

Empire KC Swim Club 17-year-old Lucy Velte was phenomenal in the women’s 100 fly, winning the race in 51.95. She touched 1st by nearly 2 full seconds, and her performance last night marked her 1st time under 52 seconds in the event. Velte is a Northwestern recruit.

CSP Tideriders 17-year-old Sydney Schoeck, SwimCloud’s #1 ranked recruit in the girls class of 2026, put on a show in the women’s 400 IM. Schoeck won the event in 4:04.22, marking a massive career best for the future Texas Longhorn. Schoeck’s previous best was 4:05.96, which she swam at Winter Juniors West just 3 months ago. She was great across the board last night, splitting 56.00 on fly, 59.95 on back, 1:11.59 on breast, and 56.68 on free.

In the men’s 400 IM, Tsunami Swim Team of KC 17-year-old Ellis Crisci, another future Texas Longhorn, popped a 3:49.70. After a huge performance in the 1650 free on day 1, Crisci followed it up with a great swim in the 400 IM. His swim last night was a huge career best, blowing away his previous best of 3:52.87.

There were a pair of relays on the day: the 200 free relay and 200 medley relay. In the women’s 200 free relay, Empire KC Swim Club’s ‘A’ squad earned the win, putting up a speedy 1:31.34. Lanie Tietjen (23.25), Ashlyn Bolyard (22.83), Avery Frick (23.06), and Lucy Velte (22.20) combined to earn the win.

River City Aquatics’ ‘A’ team of Hudson Dennis (20.67), Tripp Hurst (19.92), Kaiden Cracraft (21.20), and Ty Thomas (19.17) put up a 1:20.96, winning the men’s 200 free relay by well over a second.

The 200 medley relay concluded the session. Empire KC Swim Club was once again victorious in the women’s relay, where Bolyard (26.11), Clara Seemann (28.13), Velte (23.86), Tietjen (22.47) combined for a 1:40.57.

River City Aquatics won the men’s 200 free relay in 1:30.23, seeing Hurst (22.75), Dennis (25.18), Cracraft (22.85), and Thomas (19.45) team up to earn the victory.
