Florida and Kentucky battled in another tight game on Friday in the SEC Tournament. For the third time in 2025-26, the Gators came out on top. UF is moving on to Saturday’s semifinals with a 71-63 victory.
The familiar theme of Florida jumping out to an early lead and Kentucky battling back played out again on Friday in Nashville. The Gators led by as many as 17 points in the second half, but a long field-goal drought and a UK run had it all the way down to 5 points with under 2 minutes to go.
Both Todd Golden and Mark Pope will be frustrated when they look over the box score. Both teams shot under 40% from the field. Florida had a miserable day from 3-point range, making just 3 of 20 3-point tries. Kentucky was 5-of-23 from beyond the arc.
Florida standout Thomas Haugh was just 2-of-9 from the field, but managed to crack double figures with 13 points. The Gators were led by a strong game from Alex Condon, who had 22 points on 7-of-12 shooting from the field and 8 free throws. The Aussie big made it a double-double with 10 rebounds.
Xaivian Lee also got into double-figure scoring with 11 points. Though the Gators struggled from 3-point range, it was Lee’s 3 to make 69-61 with 50 seconds to go that allowed Gator fans to exhale.
Florida won the glass in dominating fashion, outrebounding Kentucky 50-29. The Gators, though, had 18 turnovers to Kentucky’s 12, allowing the Cats to get 18 points off turnovers.
Denzel Aberdeen, a member of Florida’s national championship team, was UK’s top scorer with 17 points on 5-of-11 shooting from the field. Otega Oweh shot 5-of-18, scoring 10 points. Mouhamed Diabate was also in double figures with 14 points.
In 3 games, Kentucky never led Florida. The Gators will face either Tennessee or Vanderbilt in Saturday’s semifinal.
