Day 52 of the Chicago Bears offseason. Two days after taking a walk on a 69-degree afternoon, I found myself on that same route walking through snowflakes. Why do we live here again?
Even though Maxx Crosby announced his intention to stay with the Las Vegas Raiders, some teams apparently are refusing to take “no” for an answer:The Raiders "are still hearing from teams" interested in trading for Maxx Crosby, and a potential deal isn't necessarily off the table, following Crosby’s voided trade with the Ravens, per ESPN's Dan Graziano.Crosby expressed his commitment to the Raiders on Wednesday on social… pic.twitter.com/Qn22IIrv6k
— Yahoo Sports (@YahooSports) March 12, 2026 Meanwhile, Pro Football Talk’s Mike Florio reports the Raiders are telling teams that they are not trading Crosby. Maybe this is all a ploy to build up the player’s market and trade him later. Perhaps teams saw Crosby’s statement on social media and are willing to call the Raiders’ bluff. Whatever it is, it makes this storyline tiring to follow. If some news worth discussing pops up, then we’ll pivot with some expanded thoughts. But for now, any Maxx Crosby chatter is nothing but noise.Ravens GM Eric DeCosta on pulling out of the Maxx Crosby trade:
“We were really excited about adding Maxx, potentially adding Maxx to our team. I had already begun discussions with John Spytek, those discussions continued, we were really thinking that we were getting some traction. We did. As part of the normal trade process, there were a lot of different parts with the trade process, we’ve done a lot of trades. One of the key things is you bring a player in and try to get as much information as you can. We were not able to complete the process of trading for the player, based on our assessment of the situation.”
“I’ve got a responsibility to the Ravens. I understand how people from afar would feel that way, but nobody’s more upset about this than me. Gutted by it, actually, a big regret for me.”
I wonder if DeCosta feels regret because of how the deal fell apart or if this feeling is rooted in having tarnished his (and the Ravens’) reputation when it comes to cutting a deal.THE BN BEARS PODCAST: Apple | Spotify | YouTube
Enough about players who aren’t coming to town. Let’s pivot to guys who are on their way to Chicago. Or, in the case of these five players, sticking around for another year with the Bears. Linebacker D’Marco Jackson, quarterback Case Keenum, safety Elijah Hicks, defensive lineman Daniel Hardy, and offensive lineman Jordan McFadden. The Bears didn’t offer McFadden a restricted free agent offer, but still found a way to bring him back. That isn’t too surprising, mind you. After all, the team trusted him enough to start a playoff game back in January. Clearly, this coaching staff values him as a depth option. This is kinda awkward: The Bears announced defensive tackle Andrew Billings as the team’s recipient of the Ed Block Courage Award. Billings is a free agent, whose return to the team appears to be unlikely after the reported signing of defensive Neville Gallimore. I know better than to never say never, so I’ll keep open the idea of a Billings return. It just doesn’t seem like it is in the cards. Billings, Chicago’s nominee for the 2024 Walter Payton NFL Man of the Year Award, has spent the last three years with the Bears playing 42 games (39 starts). If this is the end of the road for Andrew Billings as a member of the Bears, we will always have this image to remember him by when he leaves: (Photo by Ronald Martinez/Getty Images) Bears losses in free agency include safety Kevin Byard III (Patriots), defensive lineman Chris Williams (Falcons), tight end Durham Smythe (Ravens), cornerback Nahshon Wright (Jets), and wide receiver Olamide Zaccheaus (Falcons). I thought Smythe did an admirable job with the Bears, particularly as a blocker. However, Pro Football Focus disagrees with that sentiment based on its grading. I guess we’ll have to agree to disagree on that one — just as we did when I thought more highly of Roquan Smith’s performances from 2018-2021 than PFF did when it had the then-Bears linebacker grading out below a 70 in each of his first four seasons with the team. Bears General Manager Ryan Poles is scheduled to meet the media (h/t Nicholas Moreano) at Halas Hall at 4:15 p.m. CT on Thursday. It will be interesting to hear what Poles has to say at the start of the new league year.BN BEARS ON SOCIAL MEDIA: Facebook | Twitter | BlueSky

— Buffalo Bills (@BuffaloBills) March 11, 2026 The Cleveland Browns are running it back with Teven Jenkins, who played in all 17 games with the team last season. Injuries kept Jenkins from playing a full snap share in 2025. But seeing the 2021 Bears second-round pick get another shot to stick on an NFL roster is good to see. Maybe one day he will stay healthy enough to live up to his potential. Out in Tennessee, the Titans traded for Dallas Cowboys defensive lineman Solomon Thomas. Not only does this reunite Thomas with Robert Saleh (the Titans head coach coached Solomon with the 49ers and Jets) in 2026, but it also means that Tennessee has acquired the No. 2 pick (QB Mitchell Trubisky) and No. 3 pick (Solomon Thomas) in the 2017 NFL Draft. I love weird NFL invisible string.MORE BEARS FROM BLEACHER NATION: Go Ad-Free | Subscribe to the BN Newsletter
