The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation, and Egyptian Expatriates has hosted the third round of Egyptian-Turkish consultations on Africa, which focused on the Horn of Africa and the Sahel, as well as the sixth round of talks on Libya.
During the talks, the two sides reviewed developments in the Horn of Africa and the Red Sea, underscoring the importance of preserving Somalia’s unity and territorial integrity.
They discussed the two countries’ efforts to support Somalia in achieving security and stability, combating terrorism, and strengthening state control across its territory, in addition to exploring opportunities for cooperation in building Somali capacities and supporting development.
Both sides also stressed the importance of enhancing maritime security in the Red Sea, one of the world’s most important international trade routes, and emphasized the need to prevent the spillover of ongoing regional conflicts into the Red Sea and its coastal areas.
The consultations also addressed the situation in the Sahel region, with the two sides reaffirming their commitment to supporting countries of the Alliance of Sahel States in confronting terrorist groups and restoring stability in the region.
Discussions on Libya covered the latest political and security developments. Both sides exchanged views on ways to support the Libyan political process while preserving the unity and sovereignty of Libya’s territory.
They also reviewed regional and international efforts to support the UN-led political settlement process in Libya.
They underlined the importance of encouraging dialogue among Libyan parties and creating conditions for holding simultaneous presidential and parliamentary elections to meet the Libyan people’s aspirations for stability and development.
