D’Marco Jackson quietly authored one of the most impressive under-the-radar seasons you’ll see from a Bears linebacker. A fifth-round pick by the New Orleans Saints in the 2022 NFL Draft, Jackson made the first of an extended look with Chicago as he made four starts while appearing on a career-high 261 defensive snaps. Jackson certainly made the most of his playing time, which explains why the team is giving him a new deal.
Jackson made his first notable impact when he earned Pro Football Focus’ top grade for Bears players in the team’s Week 15 win against the Browns. He also picked up NFC Defensive Player of the Week honors for his efforts in that game. Jackson was a quality fill-in while the Bears were without their starting linebackers during the regular season, and looked comfortable when thrust into the starting lineup in the playoffs when injuries knocked out T.J. Edwards against the Rams. All things considered, re-signing D’Marco Jackson at a modest price always made sense for the Bears.
I don’t expect Chicago’s football team to be done adding linebackers this offseason. With the team parting ways with Tremaine Edmunds late last week, the aforementioned T.J. Edwards having suffered a serious injury in the playoffs, and Noah Sewell ending the season on injured reserve, the Bears could use some linebacker depth going into the 2026 NFL season. But by bringing back Jackson before he could test the free-agent waters, there is one fewer hole to fill.
