CANANDAIGUA, N.Y. — After an animal neglect report, two arrests were made following an investigation by the Ontario County Humane Society, Ontario County Sheriff’s Office, and Ontario County Probation Office at a residence on 5544 Purdy Rd. Multiple dogs were reportedly taken away.
Reported concerns originated to a local shelter, about unsanitary conditions and a lack of medical care for animals. Concerns then arose about a 12-year-old boy, which Child Protective Services got involved in the investigation, the sheriff’s office says.
The investigation led to five dogs being seized, with one being found roaming free while the other dogs were seen in metal cages, deputies say.
Ruth M. Barnhart of Canandaigua, 40, and Brian D. Ogdenski of Canandaigua, 27, were arrested and charged with aggravated animal cruelty and endangering the welfare of a child.
The Town of Canandaigua Code Enforcement Office deemed the residence uninhabitable.
The dogs were taken to Ontario County Humane Society and received treatment, finding two in poor condition.
Barnhart and Ogdenski were given appearance tickets to Canandaigua Town Court.
