A break in a water line is closing part of a downtown Carrboro on Thursday morning and causing a water outage for a couple dozen customers.
An alert from the Town of Carrboro and Orange Water and Sewer Authority at 9 a.m. on Thursday said the westbound lane of Jones Ferry Road near West Main Street and Bim Street is closed as crews from the utility agency work to repair the line. As repairs are done, the water has been shut off completely for 27 customers in neighborhoods along Jones Ferry Road.
A boil water advisory — which is a period of time where customers are encouraged to boil their water to kill any bacteria and contaminants — will be issued to the affected OWASA customers once water service is restored. OWASA’s outage map says to expect repairs to take between four to six hours.
Jones Ferry Road is a key east-west thoroughfare out of downtown Carrboro. Road-users looking to detour the closure can take West Main Street to West Poplar Avenue to travel west, or navigate to North Carolina Highway 54.
