The Kyler Murray domino is finally falling in Arizona with the Cardinals’ planned release of the quarterback upon the new league year.
As to where Murray will suit up in the near future, there are certainly options, with at least a handful of teams not including the Cardinals in the “quarterback-needy” tier.
Here is a look at the teams who could potentially kick the tires on the quarterback:

Makes the most sense
There’s a reason why the Minnesota Vikings remain a top option for Murray this offseason.
Not only are there some serious question marks regarding 2024 first-rounder and quarterback J.J. McCarthy, Minnesota has a recent history of reclaiming quarterbacks.

It was 2024 when the Vikings took a flier on Sam Darnold. Despite it being his fourth NFL team since entering the league as the No. 3 overall pick in 2018, head coach Kevin O’Connell got the very best out of the veteran.
Darnold’s 4,319 yards and 35 touchdowns to 12 interceptions are far and away the best single-season numbers of his career. He won one more game in his lone year in Minnesota (14) than he did across three seasons with the New York Jets (13).
He parlayed that stint with Minnesota into a three-year contract with the Seattle Seahawks. Both are clearly in a good spot coming off a Super Bowl win over the New England Patriots.
If a quarterback is looking to revive his NFL career, landing in Minnesota is likely the best bet given its most recent history with Darnold. Inheriting playmakers Justin Jefferson and Jordan Addison on top of having a top-ranked defense to fall back would be enticing to just about any quarterback looking for a new home.
The Vikings are also among the teams reportedly considering Murray as a veteran option to pair alongside McCarthy.
A pairing almost makes too much sense between the two sides.
Injury replacement needed
If Minnesota isn’t Murray’s next landing spot, what about one of the franchises with injury questions at quarterback?
Not far behind Minnesota in the favorites category sit the Atlanta Falcons.
Whether Michael Penix Jr. will be healthy for the start of the season is up for serious debate after he went down with a torn left ACL in Week 11 of last year. It’s a red flag for Penix, who dealt with multiple ACL tears in college.
And although the Falcons just recently cleaned house from a front office and coaching staff perspective, Atlanta is coming off back-to-back 8-9 seasons and has key offensive playmakers in Bijan Robinson, Drake London and Kyle Pitts.
Minnesota represents the most likely landing spot for Murray. Atlanta is a clear No. 2. After that, the gap between them and the next teams is large.
But what about some of the teams with quarterbacks coming off serious injuries?
The Indianapolis Colts are reportedly placing the transition tag on free agent Daniel Jones following a strong Year 1 with the franchise. He’s also coming off a torn Achilles suffered late last year. If he isn’t ready for the start of the season, there’s an opening for Murray with a team that pulled off its own reclamation success story at quarterback.
Let’s get even weirder.
How about the Kansas City Chiefs? Patrick Mahomes is coming off a December surgery for a torn ACL and LCL. His Week 1 availability is up in the air, too.
Don’t buy it
They may be the betting favorites to land Kyler Murray this offseason, but the New York Jets should be much lower on the list.
After dealing with one franchise that has struggled to tally wins, signing up with another team in the same boat (with more holes potentially) seems like a nonstarter for Murray.
Signing up for more cold-weather games and a home stadium outside feels like a nonstarter for Murray, too.
Even if the Jets offered Murray more money following a potential release, a pairing just feels unlikely.
The same feeling goes for the team with the second-best odds at adding Murray to its roster, the Miami Dolphins.
Dealing with their own franchise quarterback’s likely departure this offseason (and the hefty amount of dead money that’ll likely be attached to it), Miami is headed for a reset like Arizona.
But for the Dolphins’ new front office and coaching staff, they likely have enough cushion to kick the can to the 2027 NFL Draft when it comes to landing their next franchise quarterback.
Miami sticking with Quinn Ewers and watching its first-round pick move up the draft board as the losses pile up in 2026 feels like the move.
Sticking close to (his former) home?
A potential Los Angeles Rams-Murray pairing could either be a nightmare or a dream for Cardinals fans.
Matthew Stafford is coming off an MVP campaign and is readying himself for another season under head coach Sean McVay.
But how much does he really have left in the tank?
Los Angeles is going to have to start getting serious when it comes to a quarterback contingency plan in an effort to have the smoothest transition possible.
Bringing over Murray to learn the offense behind Stafford is a road the Rams could at least look into.
McVay played a role in turning Baker Mayfield’s career around after taking a flier on the quarterback in 2022. Could Murray be next?
And if Murray doesn’t pan out in LA, Cardinals fans can take solace in the fact the Rams used some of their resources on the signal caller.
