The Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirmed Saturday that Iran’s armed forces will utilize their full power and capabilities to respond to what it described as “Zionist-American aggression.”
According to the state news agency IRNA, the ministry stated that the response would make the “aggressors regret their criminal actions.”
Early Saturday morning, the US and Israel launched a massive joint military offensive against Iran.
The operation follows weeks of escalating tensions, American military threats, and a significant troop buildup in the Middle East.
Major combat operation
US President Donald Trump, in a video posted to his Truth Social platform, announced that American forces have commenced “major combat operations” against Iran.
Describing the offensive as “massive and ongoing,” Trump stated the goals are to dismantle Iran’s missile and military infrastructure, prevent Tehran from acquiring nuclear weapons, and eliminate “imminent threats” from the Iranian regime.
He noted that the operation could last several days and that casualties are expected.
Simultaneously, the Israeli Ministry of Defense confirmed it launched a “preemptive strike” on Iran in coordination with the US, targeting dozens of military sites, including ballistic missile factories and nuclear facilities.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu stated the attack aims to “remove the existential threat” posed by Iran, calling on the Iranian people to seize this opportunity to overthrow the regime.
This marks the second such confrontation in recent months, following a 12-day conflict in June 2025 where Israel, backed by the US, struck Iranian nuclear and military sites.
Tehran retaliated then with missile and drone strikes against Israel and a US base in Doha.
The latest escalation occurred just hours after President Trump expressed dissatisfaction with Omani-mediated nuclear negotiations, amid reports that the diplomatic track has collapsed.
The Pentagon has designated the American campaign “Operation Epic Fury,” while Iran has retaliated with salvos of missiles toward Israel, announcing the start of “Operation True Promise IV.”
Explosions have been reported in several Iranian cities, including Tehran, Qom, Isfahan, and Kermanshah.
