Connor Wood Urges ‘DWTS’ Fans to Chill Out After High-Drama Week: ‘So Much Pressure’ ...Saudi Arabia

News by : (Parade) -

As comedian and podcaster Connor Wood looks ahead to the fourth week of competition on Dancing with the Stars, he’s really hoping for less drama and more fun. Best known to his millions of social media followers by his online handle, Fibula, the 31-year-old is trying to keep things light and entertaining with his pro partner, Rylee Arnold, but it’s not easy.

On Thursday, October 1, Wood admitted in the latest episode of Brooke & Connor Make a Podcast, which he co-hosts with his friend Brooke Averick, that it feels like all the drama surrounding DWTS is getting too heavy.

Wood and Averick recorded their 238th episode the day after Taylor Hanson and pro Britt Stewart were eliminated from season 35, sending shockwaves across the fandom as Stewart, who became a DWTS pro in 2020, was seen crying onstage after the surprising cut. Keyboard warriors were quick to cast blame on social media, and many cast members issued comments about feeling stunned and saddened by the results.

“What did we come to do?” Wood asked on his podcast, marveling to Averick that the October 6 episode of DWTS will mark fourth full week on the show. “We came here to have fun. (But) I think Dancing with the Stars has become so much pressure because there’s so much commentary on it and everyone’s an expert.”

“I’m wearing a pink suit and I have a mullet on,” he quipped about his and Arnold’s Yacht Rock dance on September 29. “This is not life or death. Like, nothing here is serious. Please, be so serious. I got here three weeks ago and I’m learning a foxtrot. Like, this is pure fun. This should be fun to watch on TV.”

Wood continued, “You should be watching with your kindergartner. You should be watching with your grandma. You should be giggling. You should be like, ‘Oh, that’s cute.’ There should be nothing like, ‘No! My hot take is that he should be taken out back and shot!’ There’s no room for that here. It’s fun!”

“We gotta let our hair down and enjoy it, and I’ve had to tell myself that,” he added.

That doesn’t mean Wood doesn’t want to improve and properly learn each dance. He said he’s taking the judges’ critiques to heart, noting that “tuck your butt” is the latest instruction he’s trying to apply. He sighed to Averick, “It’s just always something, you know?”

When Averick shared how upset she was about Hanson and Stewart’s elimination, Wood acknowledged that the situation “sucks,” and added, “I love them both.”

He then asked Averick if she would ever agree to compete on DWTS and she immediately gave it a hard pass. She hilariously told Wood, “I can’t imagine living in that state. I mean, I would die. My body would go into shock. Like, I don’t think the body can function with that much cortisol. Like, I would be puking for weeks and weeks, so sick. I would have diarrhea all over the ballroom floor!”

Dancing with the Stars airs live each Tuesday night on ABC and Disney+. On October 6, the remaining 12 duos will perform to different Mariah Carey hits, hoping for enough points from the judges and votes from viewers to keep them safe again.
