2026 Virginia High School League Class 3 State Swimming and Diving Championships
Feb. 19, 2026 Richmond, VA SCY (25 yards) ResultsThe dynasty for Western Albemarle continued at the Virginia High School League Class 3 State Swimming and Diving Championships.
The Western Albemarle boys’ team won its ninth straight state championship in dominant fashion, while the girls’ team claimed its third consecutive title with an impressive performance of its own.

Western Albemarle swept the three relays and got a pair of wins in individual events.
Sophomore Megan Ayres won the 500 free in 4:56.02, while junior Harper Stone captured the diving event with 346.10 points.
The individual stars of the meet were Kettle Run senior Emma Cigna and Fauquier freshman Jilly Shifflett.
Committed to N.C. State, Cigna repeated as champion in the 200 free, swimming a personal best time of 1:46.71. After finishing 2nd in the fly at last year’s state meet, Cigna won that event this time in a personal best 53.17.
Shifflett won both sprint freestyle events, taking the 50 free in 23.71 and the 100 free in a personal best of 51.05.
Other event winners were:
The Western Albemarle team of Willow Phillips (28.44), Ayres (29.00), Eliza Osada (24.43) and Lily Phillips (23.27) won the 200 medley relay in 1:45.14. Sofie Vanyo, a junior for Monticello who has committed to North Carolina, won the 200 IM in 2:03.11 after taking 2nd in the event last year. Vanyo was 2nd to Shifflett in the 100 free with a time of 51.10, just five one-hundredths behind. The 200 free relay was won by Cave Spring’s team of Avery Spurlock (25.44), Lila Gorby (24.95), Alexis Schaaf (24.30) and Jillian Sylvester-Johnson (23.75) in 1:38.44. Another Fauquier freshman, Emerson Cantilena, won the 100 back in a personal best 56.63. Christiansburg sophomore Laney Alderman won the 100 breast in a personal best 1:01.89. In the 400 free relay, Western Albemarle’s team of Sophie Wang (53.49), Osada (52.44), Ayres (54.15) and Phillips (51.89) won in 3:31.97.Girls’ Team Standings — Top 5

It was a balanced boys’ meet individually, with nine different individual event winners. The relays were a different story, with Western Albemarle sweeping all three events.
The leading point getter for Western Albemarle was Brayden King, a William & Mary commit who won the 500 free in 4:35.35.
King also swam the second leg for Western Albemarle’s winning team in the 400 free relay. The squad of Jackson Hankins (50.38), King (48.82), Lucas Daniero (50.81), and Ben Tungate (46.94) won in a time of 3:16.95.
In the 200 medley relay, Western Albemarle’s team of Johnny Zevgolis (23.81), Henry Smith (27.13), Charlie Alexander (23.05), and Garrett Britt (21.35) touched the wall in 1:35.34, which was 1.24 seconds ahead of runner-up Liberty.
It was a larger margin of victory for Western Albemarle in theint he 200 free relay. The squad of Hankins (21.60), Alexander (21.82), Thomas Manson (21.58) and Britt (21.63) won in 1:26.63, coming in almost three seconds faster than runner-up Goochland.
Other individual event winners were:
Monticello sophomore Ben Charlton won the 200 free in 1:41.39. Brody Wall, a sophomore for Liberty, won the 50 free in a personal best of 21.14. James Hewitt, a sophomore for Rocktown, won the 200 IM in a personal best 1:41.39. Christiansburg senior Luke Rawlings won the diving event with 494.45 points. Ryan Southern, a senior for Meridian, repeated as champion in the 100 fly in a time of 49.11. Finn Leggett, a senior for New Kent, improved on a 2nd-place finish in the 100 free last year by winning the event this year in a time of 46.83. Lord Botetourt junior Max Mizuba was the champion in the 100 back, finishing with a time of 51.20. He was 3rd in the event last year.
