Headed to the mall? Prepare to pay for parking if you’re headed to one popular suburban shopping destination.
According to a statement, guests at the Fashion Outlets of Chicago in Rosemont will now be charged for parking as part of a “new” program.
“We are introducing a new paid parking program and transitioning parking operations to Metropolis, a best-in-class operator known for its customer-friendly approach,” a statement sent to NBC Chicago from Macerich, the mall’s owner said. “This update is designed to ensure convenient access for our guests while maintaining a positive overall experience at the center.”
According to the mall, daily parking rates range from $13 for one to three hours; $20 for three to 12 hours and $50 for 12 to 24 hours. Shoppers who visit the mall for less than an hour will not have to pay for parking.
Validation is available, the mall said, but there are restrictions: Validation is available for visitors who spend between one and three hours at the mall, and spend a minimum of $100, officials said.
“Parking rates are comparable to nearby facilities in the area; the first hour is free, and guests can enjoy up to three hours of complimentary parking with $100 or more in same-day purchases,” the statement said.
According to the mall, customers are encouraged to pay by phone and register their license plate numbers ahead of time.
“Just drive out when you’re ready, and we’ll automatically charge your account,” the mall’s website said.
It wasn’t immediately clear when the paid parking program went into effect, and the mall did not immediately respond to NBC Chicago’s request for more information. Google Reviews mentioning the park parking program appeared earlier this month.
Mall management appeared to respond to some comments, saying “the new paid parking program prioritizes parking available for our shoppers while maintaining ease of use.”
Earlier this year, Oakbrook Mall introduced some paid priority parking spots, starting at $3 per hour. The majority of the mall parking remains free.
