ROCHESTER, N.Y. — Local Olympian Haley Winn has been making waves as she helps the U.S. women’s hockey team score multiple points in Italy. Back home, her alma mater, Bishop Kearney High School, has teamed up with the University of Rochester to develop the next generation of Olympic hockey players.
They are part of the university’s “Fitness Science Program.”
“Our job here is to not only get them faster and stronger, but a lot of it is teaching body control, coordination, and you get to see that especially with the younger girls coming in, the freshmen that have never done things like this before,” said Haley Rouhana.
“Cuz they do teach us something every day, something that’s new. Whether it’s with the nutrition specialist or the mental performance coach and yeah, you take a lot in every day,” said Maize Wilner.
The program’s director is currently in Italy working with Team USA.
The women’s hockey team is set to face Italy in the quarterfinal on Friday afternoon at 3:10 p.m. The game will air on the USA Network.
