First Alert Weather: Yellow alert continues for harsh winter conditions ...Middle East

ROCHESTER, N.Y. – A combination of ingredients has made for a rather extreme weather event for all of Western New York.  Winds continue to gust at 30 to 35 miles per hour, creating extensive blowing and drifting snow in the open areas (especially the north to south roadways).  The air temperature has mostly been in the single digits with the wind chill running at -15 to -30 degrees.  If not dressed properly, there is the potential for frost bite or hypothermia.  Dry, powdery lake effect continues to deposit snowfall mostly north of the New York Thruway, and this is likely to continue into early Sunday.  As a result, the News10NBC First Alert meteorologists will continue a yellow alert.

Tonight, look for lake effect snow with a new accumulation of three to five inches along the Route 104 corridor during the next 24 hours.  Lesser amounts expected south of Rochester with a fresh dusting to three inches.  Again, blowing and drifting snow will reduce visibility at times. The temperature will fall to within a few degrees of zero with the wind chill still at sub-zero levels overnight.

Sunday brings more snow lakeside with another one to two inches possible.  The high temperature will only reach about ten degrees with the wind chill still below zero.

Then a moderation is coming for the first half of the week.  Monday brings less wind and breaks of sunshine.  The temperature should be near 20 degrees.  Tuesday may bring a snow shower, but the temperature will finally reach above freezing with readings into the middle 30s.  It may actually feel like a heat wave for Tuesday as the temperature goes above freeze!
