Blackhawks 6, Sharks 3 — Three Stars, Key Takeaways ...Middle East

Sport by : (Bleacher Nation) -

Remember when the Blackhawks couldn’t score on the power play? And went 0-for-26 over what felt like a calendar year between scores while skating with the advantage? The one stat that stood out most in the first period was… one — the number of goals the Blackhawks scored? No. The number of shots on net the Sharks had in 20 minutes.

At 10:36 into the second period, Yaroslav Askarov skated to the bench in defeat. The Blackhawks had a stunning 4-0 lead on 10 shots on net, and the Sharks were making a chance in net. If the hope was that the change would spark their offense — which had only six shots on net in almost 30 minutes — it took less than 90 seconds for San Jose to get on the board. Unfortunately for them, the Blackhawks answered 37 seconds later to push their lead back to four. Macklin Celebrini cut the lead back to three with just under five minutes left in the period, but the Hawks were able to take that advantage to the room after 40 minutes.

The Sharks got the next goal, cutting the Hawks’ lead to two at 2:13 into the third period. The Blackhawks continued to push their luck and handed San Jose two power plays in the third, but were able to kill them off; Chicago’s penalty kill was really good tonight. The Hawks scored a huge insurance goal with 5:19 left in regulation to make things a little more comfortable.

Star 1: Ryan Donato

Like Mikheyev, Donato picked up three points in the second period tonight. He had a helper on Connor Murphy‘s goal to open the second period and then set up Mikheyev for his score. Donato was plus-five in the game. Here’s Donato’s sick goal from the second period:

And here’s Donato’s goal in the third period, which gave him a four-point night:

Star 2: llya Mikheyev

Mikheyev picked up two assists in 61 seconds in the middle of the second period as the Blackhawks sprinted to a four-goal lead. He then scored a goal 37 seconds after the Sharks scored for the first time — a big moment because the Blackhawks have let teams get back into games like tonight. Mikheyev hit the jets and started Donato’s scoring play in the third period; he had a four-point night and was plus-four in the game. Here’s his goal:

Star 3: Connor Bedard

Bedard’s power play goal ended an 0-for-26 drought for the Blackhawks on the advantage. They needed something to finally give on the power play, and were able to break thru early tonight.

Key Takeaways

I would absolutely love to have just named the entire Donato-Dickinson-Mikheyev line as our three stars tonight, but the Blackhawks actually scoring a power play goal has to get in there. But I do want to put Jason Dickinson in the honorable mention area because he and his linemates made life hard on Celebrini’s line all night. Dickinson also had two assists in the game. When the Blackhawks’ third power play of the first period began, the teams had combined for three shots on net (two for the Hawks, one for the Sharks). The Hawks doubled their shot total during that power play. Here’s Murphy’s goal from the second period:

— BHF (@BlackhawksFocus) February 3, 2026 The Blackhawks had five goals on the board at the end of the second period and your even strength leader in shot attempts (three), individual scoring chances for (two) and high danger chances for (two) was… Landon Slaggert. And he did that in only 6:37 at 5-on-5. Colton Dach had four hits in a team-low 5:25 of ice time thru two periods. Spencer Knight made a few huge saves in the second period to keep the Sharks from storming back more than they did with two goals. Louis Crevier didn’t have his best night. During the third period, he found himself skating with Matt Grzelcyk and Alex Vlasic was spending time with Murphy. Ryan Reaves didn’t appear to play much actual hockey tonight. He did try to hurt anyone he could reach, however.
